Devices / / January 06, 2021
Samsung is the undisputed leader among Android tablet manufacturers, thanks in large part to the Galaxy Tab S6 released a year ago. Now the company has introduced the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, which inherited a neat design and stylus from the older version. But will the novelty be able to repeat the success of the flagship model?

Design and ergonomics
Before us is a thin aluminum the tablet with small frames around the screen. The corners of the body are rounded, the side edges are flat. The novelty lies comfortably in the hands, and the weight of 465 g does not get tired during long use.
Build quality and materials are excellent, glass and metal are perfectly matched to each other. There are no logos or buttons on the front. Spaces around the screen are uniform and sufficient for a comfortable grip. The top and bottom ends contain stereo speakers, a 3.5 mm audio jack and a USB Type-C port.
Along the perimeter of the case are discreet plastic inserts for antennas. On the right side there is a power button, a volume rocker and a slot for microSD cards with a cover. We are testing the Wi-Fi ‑ version of the tablet, in the model with LTE support, the plug is replaced with SIM card.
The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite does not have a fingerprint scanner, but face recognition can be used instead. The latter works with the help of a front camera and "fades" when there is a lack of lighting.
The device comes with a magnetic case-book and a stylus S Pen, which is attached to the case.
Screen
Galaxy Tab S6 Lite has a 10.4-inch display with a resolution of 2000 × 1200 pixels. In recalculation, this gives a pixel density of 224 PPI - a good value for an IPS matrix with a classic RGB organization.
Screen cannot boast of high contrast, which is why the picture looks faded. The black color is not deep enough: after all, this is not AMOLED. However, even by the standards of IPS-matrices, the color gamut is rather modest.
Otherwise, everything is decent: the white color does not give off blue or yellowness, the brightness margin is normal, the viewing angles are also good. The image darkens at large angles, as if there is an air gap between the matrix and the glass. However, this does not interfere with everyday use.
Software and features
The tablet runs Android 10 with One UI 2.1. The interface is almost the same as in smartphones Samsung, differs only in support of landscape orientation.
The hardware platform of the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is the Exynos 9611 chipset. It includes four high-performance Cortex ‑ A73 cores with a frequency of up to 2.3 GHz, four energy efficient Cortex ‑ A53 (up to 1.7 GHz) and a Mali ‑ G72 MP3 video accelerator.
RAM - 4 GB, internal storage is 64 GB and expandable with microSD cards.
System operation and applications does not raise questions, but with games everything is more complicated. In World of Tanks: Blitz, even at medium settings, frequency drops of up to 30 FPS are noticeable. In general, the device is not suitable for heavy titles.
Sound
The tablet is equipped with stereo speakers, for the sound of which the engineers of the Austrian company AKG were responsible. The bass is well developed, the tonal balance is neutral, there is no distortion even at maximum volume. Dolby Atmos surround sound technology is also supported.
The sound through the headphones is not that impressive. The volume is sufficient, but the elaboration of low and high frequencies leaves much to be desired. This is noticeable in high-quality wired "ears" and is irrelevant for a wireless connection. The novelty also supports the Samsung Scalable Codec audio codec for high-quality audio transmission over Bluetooth.
Camera
Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is equipped with an 8-megapixel main module with autofocus. The shots cannot boast of detail or wide dynamic range - however, expect quality cameras from the tablet is not worth it. The 5 megapixel front camera is great for video calls, and satisfactory self-portraits are also obtained with it.
Autonomy
A 7,040 mAh battery is installed inside the tablet. The device can last almost two days without recharging if not loaded games. With continuous video playback at brightness, 50% of the battery lasted 12 hours. It takes 3 hours to recharge the battery from the included 15W adapter.
Outcome
Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 stands out from other tablets with a stylus and high quality sound. Battery life is also a strong point of the device. However, it was not without drawbacks: at a cost of 29 thousand rubles, I would like to see a better screen, a fingerprint scanner and performance sufficient for heavy games. So the novelty is not for everyone.
Buy
The author thanks Samsung for the device provided. The company had no way to influence the test result.
