OPPO Reno 3 Pro first look - a gaming smartphone with a solid design
Devices / / January 06, 2021
In recent years, an interesting trend has been observed in the smartphone market: the consumer does not want to pay 70 thousand rubles for flagship devices, which is why the demand for them is falling. Meanwhile, in the mid-budget segment, everything is exactly the opposite. More and more companies are releasing low-cost advanced smartphones to catch the wave of demand. OPPO was no exception: its response to the market trend is the Reno 3 and Reno 3 Pro models. We have already held the latter in our hands and are in a hurry to share our impressions.
Design
Outwardly, OPPO Reno 3 Pro is almost the same as the flagship models: the same curved glass panels and aluminum side, narrow bezels and a protruding camera block. But unlike Find X2 the metal frame is matte here, and its shape is simpler - they clearly saved on milling and processing.
The novelty will be sold in black and blue colors, we are testing the first version. The glass back has a gradient color and brightens in the upper part, the power button is highlighted in green. These small details dilute the austere design of the device.
The smartphone fits nicely in the hand. The thickness of the case in the area of the cameras is only 7.7 mm, and the weight is 171 g. After the huge flagship models with the Reno 3 Pro, it's a relief.
Screen
Almost the entire front side is occupied by a 6.5-inch screen with curved edges. The matrix is made using AMOLED technology, has a Full HD + resolution and a refresh rate of 90 Hz. The engineers also increased the polling rate of the sensor to 180 Hz, which made it more responsive - this is especially important in online games like Call of Duty: Mobile. In addition, the display has a built-in front camera and an optical fingerprint scanner that works in 0.3 seconds.
At first glance, we see a high-quality AMOLED panel with natural color display, wide viewing angles, a large margin of brightness and perfect contrast. Although the point density could be higher. Here it is about 400 ppi, which, taking into account the structure of the Diamond pixels (there are twice as many green diodes as red and blue), reduces the clarity of small text. However, most of the time this is invisible.
Sound
OPPO Reno 3 Pro is equipped with stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support. The volume margin is slightly lower than that of the Find X2, but at the same time, the smartphone produces more balanced and spacious sound and better works out the voice range. Watching YouTube videos with these speakers is a pleasure.
But the company left the 3.5-mm audio jack only in the younger version without the Pro prefix. What is the reason for this is unclear. But at least they included headphones with a USB Type-C connection, which will be enough for the first time.
Cameras
The novelty has received four cameras on the back. The standard module is equipped with a 48 megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor and optical stabilization, there is also an 8 megapixel “shirik” with autofocus, a 13 megapixel telephoto lens with a fivefold hybrid zoom and a depth sensor.
The set of characteristics is standard, but the software component of the camera is more interesting. There is an advanced stabilization mode here: the neural network predicts device vibrations and compensates for them on video. At the same time, the frame is not cropped as much as in previous versions of the technology. This function is useful when shooting all kinds of action without external stabilizers.
We shot a little with a smartphone and compared it with the OPPO Find X2. You can evaluate the result yourself.
Other features
OPPO Reno 3 Pro is built on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G hardware platform, which is overclocked graphics core, support for memory frequencies above 2,000 MHz and an advanced artificial intelligence unit. RAM is 12 GB, permanent - 256 GB without expansion.
So that all this stuff does not overheat, the smartphone is equipped with a copper heat sink with a steam chamber, so you can expect impressive performance in games. OPPO has also worked on optimizing Color OS 7 firmware based on Android 10. It received a smart Anti-lag Engine internal memory manager, which prevents cluttering the system and slowing down its work over time.
We also took care of the quality of communication: 10 antennas are distributed along the perimeter of the case, so the signal should be stable in most situations. In addition, the new product received NFC and supports contactless payment via Google Pay.
A 4,025 mAh battery is responsible for powering all components. The smartphone comes with a 30 W charging adapter, from which the battery is replenished in less than an hour. In this case, the built-in controller regulates the current and voltage so that the battery does not heat up.
Subtotals
OPPO Reno 3 Pro seems like a great option for those who want to get all the functions of a flagship device without paying 70 thousand rubles or more for it. Of course, during long-term testing, shortcomings may come to light, so we advise you to wait for a full review. But now the impressions of the novelty are extremely positive.
The exact price of the smartphone and the release date are still unknown.
The author thanks the company OPPO for the device provided for testing. The company had no way to influence the test result.
