Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T: what you need to know about a bouncy and inexpensive smartphone with contactless payment

What is in the box
A standard set is hidden in a white box: a phone and a symbolic transparent case for it, a USB - USB Type ‑ C cable, an 18 W fast charging adapter and a paper clip to open the SIM card tray.
What's with the design
We got the most beautiful smartphone from the line. The company calls its color "moon white", but in reality it shimmers in shades from pale blue to lilac. On the light body, fingerprints are almost invisible. There are also models of restrained gray and deep blue shades with the poetic name "star blue". The device received a protective coating of Corning Gorilla Glass 5, but you still shouldn't drop the gadget: it can break.
The phone is not positioned as frameless, but the bezels are generally narrow and non-annoying. The front camera is located in a waterdrop notch - quite a good solution that Xiaomi broadcasts in most of the latest models. If the “drop” still enrages, in the settings you can enable the “Endless screen” function, which will roll out the black edge. Bottom of the smartphone - a wide "chin" with the inscription
Redmi. On the left is a tray for two SIM cards.Despite the fact that the phone is rather large, due to its elongated shape you cannot call it a huge one: the gadget is comfortable to hold, even if fate has endowed you with small palms.
The block of four cameras is located on the left - compact and convenient. Next to them is a fingerprint scanner. On the edges - a standard headphone jack and Type ‑ C.
The device received a 6.3-inch FHD + display. This is not the brightest and most contrasting screen in your life, but it is quite comfortable for daily use. You can turn on Reading Mode to make the colors warmer.
The company promises that the phone will survive splashes and raindrops. The Redmi Note 8T did really well during the snow, so the weather test was successful.
What's with the sound
The phone is positioned as a good model for photography, so we didn't expect too much from the sound. And rightly so: the music sounds rather flat, albeit loud. We do not recommend listening to something melodic and watching "The Joker", but the model is quite suitable for sticking to YouTube or podcastswhere too deep immersion is not required. The only speaker is at the bottom of the case.
What about the camera
The main camera of the smartphone is 48 megapixels, but the default is 8 megapixels. There is a module for macro photography and a wide-angle lens.
Redmi Note 8T shoots worse than recently presented Xiaomi Mi Note 10, but at the same time it is quite clear and intelligible. Inscriptions are distinguishable in the distance, small details are clearly visible. If you are not going to arrange long photo shoots, please note: this is a top for your money.
The night mode is pleasantly surprising. The bas-relief, poorly discernible in reality, looks much more voluminous on the screen than in real life.
Color distortion at night is minimal. By the way, shooting in the dark is also comfortable in normal mode. Unless it's worth zooming in too much: smartphone takes a long time to focus, and the quality of the final picture is clearly not worth the time spent waiting.
In daylight, selfies are good, but not too impressive: despite the high level of detail, even in normal lighting, the face appears flat and the colors are desaturated.
The phone focuses pretty quickly during video shooting. Electronic stabilization protects against shaking hands. There are also super-possibilities, for example, shooting in 4K format. We looked at how the camera copes with a large number of constantly moving objects - you can evaluate the result below.
What's with the filling
The Redmi Note 8T has a Snapdragon 665 processor - not bad, but not too powerful. Nevertheless, he copes with all tasks. Applications do not freeze, photography takes place without delay. The 4000 mAh battery lasts about 8-10 hours without additional recharge, but this is compensated by the fast charging via USB ‑ C.
In general, we get the familiar and time-tested Xiaomi Redmi series with all the basic functions. And one bonus: the main difference from the original Note 8 is the NFC chip with Google Pay support for contactless payment. This is the first affordable smartphone of the brand with such a function, not counting 8 Pro.
What is it worth taking?
Redmi Note 8T is the son of my mother's friend in the Xiaomi universe: pleasant to the touch, bright, nimble, with an adequate camera, and also with NFC. And extremely inexpensive: 3 GB of RAM with a 32 GB drive costs 13,990 rubles, 4 GB of RAM with a 64 GB drive - 15,990 rubles, and the most luxurious version with 4 GB of RAM and a 128 GB drive costs 17,990 rubles.
If you need basic functionality without unnecessary tinsel, take a closer look. It also seems to be a good gift. for parents on New Years: no bells and whistles that will take a long time to deal with, only the essentials in good performance. Well, who is now not family disappointment, but mother's pride? Of course, you.
The author thanks the company Xiaomi for the device provided for testing. The company had no way to influence the test result.
