10 tools to help you find a deleted page or site

If, having opened the desired page, you see an error or a message stating that it is no longer there, all is not lost. We have collected services that save copies of public pages and even entire sites. Perhaps in one of them you will find all the missing content.

Search engines

Search engines automatically place copies of found web pages in a special cloud reservoir - cash. The system updates data frequently: each new copy overwrites the previous one. Therefore, the cache displays, although not relevant, but, as a rule, fairly fresh versions of the pages.

1. Google cache

To open a copy of a page in Google's cache, first find the link to that page in search engine using keywords. Then click on the arrow next to the search result and select "Saved Copy".

There is also an alternative way. Enter the following URL into the browser bar: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search? q = cache: lifehacker.ru. Replace lifehacker.ru with the address of the required page and press Enter.

2. Yandex cache

Enter the page address or related keywords in the search box. After that, click on the arrow next to the search result and select "Saved Copy".

3. Bing cache

You can also browse backups in Microsoft's search engine. Type in the search bar the address of the desired page or the corresponding keywords. Click the arrow next to the search result and select Cached.

4. Yahoo cache

If the aforementioned search engines don't help you, check your Yahoo cache. Although this system is not very well known on the Runet, it also saves copies of Russian-language pages. The process is almost the same as in other search engines. Enter the page address or keywords in the Yahoo line. Then click on the arrow next to the found resource and select Cached.

Special archive services

By specifying the address of the desired web page in any of these services, you can see one or even several of its archived copies saved at different times. Thus, you can see how the content of a particular page has changed. At the same time, archive services create new copies much less frequently than search engines, which is why they often contain outdated data.

To check for copies in one of these archives, go to its website. Enter the URL of the desired page in the text field and click on the search button.

1. Wayback Machine (Web Archive)

Wayback Machine service, also known as Web Archive, is part of the Internet Archive project. It contains copies of web pages, books, images, videos and other content published on open Internet resources. Thus, the founders of the project want to preserve the cultural heritage of the digital environment.

2. Arhive. Today

Arhive. Today is an analogue of the previous service. But its database clearly has fewer resources than the Wayback Machine. And the saved versions are not always displayed correctly. But Arhive. Today can help out if suddenly the Wayback Machine does not have copies of the page you need.

3. WebCite

Another archive service, but quite a niche one. Scientific and journalistic articles prevail in the WebCite database. If you suddenly cite someone's text, and then find that the original source has disappeared, you can look for its backup copies on this resource.

3. Web Archives

This is an extension for browsers Chrome and Firefox look for copies of the currently open page in the Wayback Machine, Google, Arhive. Today and other services. Moreover, you can search both in one of them, and in all at once.
