After the distribution of the May Windows 10 Update (version 2004), PC users began to communicate about problems with authorization in Chrome. Each time you launch the browser, you have to re-enter your Google account data - the synchronization is simply reset, and with it, the previously saved cookies sometimes disappear. This leads to logging out of the accounts of various web services and sites. Reinstalling the browser does not fix the problem.
Google Security researcher Tavis Ormandy also encountered this bug. He concluded that the problem lies with the Windows Data Protection API (DPAPI), which is responsible for saving accounts and other sensitive information - it just doesn't work. For what reason is unknown.
Tevis suggests that the problem is likely to spread to new version of Edge browserwhich is based on the Chromium engine. Only Microsoft can completely fix the bug, and as a temporary solution, Tevis Ormandy advised to do the following:
- Close the Chrome.exe process. Make sure it is completely closed by opening Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc).
- Press and hold Windows + L to lock the system.
- Unlock the system by entering a password or by going through the authentication system you set up with Windows Hello.
- Open Chrome.
This should help. If not, then we can only hope for an early system update that fixes the problem.
