15 most anticipated games of 2020

1. Nioh 2
- Platforms: PS 4.
- release date: March 13.
Released in 2017, Nioh took a lot from the Dark Souls series, including high difficulty, grotesque visual style and a sophisticated role-playing system. But at the same time, the game is distinguished by a colorful setting. It combines Japanese legends and myths with the historical events of Sengoku Jidai, a dark period of feudal fragmentation.
It seems that Nioh 2 will not make radical changes to the gameplay and will only slightly deepen the developments of the first part. Gamers will get more options for character customization, new weapons, armor, locations and, of course, a new storyline.
2. DOOM Eternal
- Platforms: PC, PS 4, Xbox One.
- release date: 20th of March.
After the triumphant return of the DOOM series in 2016, it became clear that the audience missed the simple and fast shooters: less dialogue - more monsters, explosions and dynamics. Gamers swallowed the game and asked for more, so DOOM Eternal will be that welcome addition.
The core of the project will remain the same, but the feel of the gameplay will definitely change. The main innovation: an abundance of spacious multi-level locations, along which you can now quickly move with jerks and with the help of a grappling hook. Opponents have also been accelerated, so that the shooter will now become not just fast, but hurricane.
3. Half-Life: Alyx
- Platforms: PC + Valve Index / HTC Vive / Windows MR / Oculus Rift / Oculus Quest.
- release date: March.
The release of the legendary Half-Life 2 took place more than 15 years ago, and fans of the franchise have long lost all hope of a continuation. Unsurprisingly, the recent announcement of Half-Life: Alyx made so much noise. Of course, this is not a full third part, but still another big game in the series.
Alyx takes place between Half-Life and Half-Life 2. We have to see them through the eyes of Alix Vance - the heroine of the second part. The game will remain a first-person shooter, but there is one important detail: the new Half-Life will only be playable in a virtual reality helmet. Accordingly, the entire gameplay will be redesigned for VR.
4. Resident evil 3
- Platforms: PC, PS 4, Xbox One.
- release date: April 3.
CAPCOM continues to update older games from the Resident Evil horror series. The remake of the second part, released last year, delighted both old fans of the franchise and newcomers. The game received modern graphics and an extended storyline, but did not lose the old atmosphere.
Therefore, the reincarnation of the third episode is awaited with even more trepidation. Resident Evil 3 focuses on female police officer Jill Valentine. The heroine flees from the city covered with a zombie virus.
5. Final fantasy vii remake
- Platforms: PS 4.
- release date: April 10th.
Final Fantasy VII Remake is an updated version of the 1997 game that set the fashion for the JRPG genre. At the presentation of the remake, the bearded men cried with joy: so iconic was the original, which they flirted with in childhood.
The developers have updated the graphics, expanded the story and finalized the gameplay. At the same time, apparently, the project retained the spirit of the original. So there is every chance that we will get not just a beautiful, but also an exciting JRPG with a deep storyline, a distinctive world and memorable characters. The remake was split into several parts, and only the first will be released on April 10.
6. The Last of Us: Part 2
- Platforms: PS 4.
- release date: May 29.
This spring, PlayStation 4 owners will be able to return to the dark world of The Last of Us, filled with zombies and even more dangerous people. Like the first part, the sequel is a mixture of action adventure and horror. Players will again have to control Ellie. Only the girl has matured: about five years have passed since the last events of The Last of Us.
The game is being developed on a new engine, and judging by the trailers, the graphics look amazing. The same can be said for animation and staging. The developers pay tremendous attention to the drama. However, what else can we expect from Naughty Dog?
7. Dying light 2
- Platforms: PC, PS 4, Xbox One.
- release date: Spring.
The more details the developers reveal about Dying Light 2, the more intriguing their new game looks. The authors promise to diversify the zombie action movie by modifying the parkour system and adding role-playing elements.
Their concept of a non-linear plot sounds especially interesting, in which the player's choice should significantly affect open world. To work on the script, the studio called in Chris Avellone himself, known for Planescape: Torment and Fallout 2. And thanks to the new engine, post-apocalyptic cities look more realistic than ever.
8. Death stranding
- Platforms: PC.
- release date: summer.
If PlayStation 4 owners have already received their copies of Death Stranding, then PC owners will not be able to play it until summer. Hideo Kojima's action game turned out to be a large-budget author's project, which does not make the main goal of destroying opponents, like most games. On the contrary, Death Stranding makes you think about the importance of peace and connection between people.
The main character is trying to revive a civilization destroyed by some kind of cataclysm. The main part of the gameplay is the delivery of goods to different parts of the Earth and the restoration of communication between them. But there are tense moments: battles with hostile people and otherworldly creatures.
9. Marvel's Avengers
- Platforms: PC, PS 4, Xbox One.
- release date: 4 September.
Marvel's Avengers can be added to this list if only because it is made by the mega-popular franchise. But there are other reasons to wait for this project. If many games based on comics and films are frankly second-rate content, then Marvel's Avengers has every chance of becoming a self-sufficient expansion of the universe. Not for nothing Marvel hired two major game studios: Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal.
In the story, the team of the Avengers gathers after a break to join forces against another dangerous enemy. Players will be allowed to get used to the images of well-known superheroes, including Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow, and direct their abilities against villains. Marvel's Avengers can be played in both single and co-op mode.
10. Cyberpunk 2077
- Platforms: PC, PS 4, Xbox One.
- release date: September 17th.
Having created the game "The Witcher 3", the Poles from the studio CD Projekt RED raised the quality bar to exorbitant heights. To surpass themselves in Cyberpunk 2077, the developers have to work hard.
This time, the team traded fantasy for science fiction, but the genre of the game is still the same - RPG. We are again promised a large open world with freedom of movement, a non-linear storyline, a flexible character development system and numerous quests. What is Keanu Reeves in the image of one of the characters! The game looks impressive from the cutscenes. We hope the guys won't let you down.
11. Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2
- Platforms: PC, PS 4, Xbox One.
- release date: by the end of the year.
Released back in 2004, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines made it possible to experience the role of a vampire. The project came out unfinished and failed miserably. But players still remember his original idea and the dark atmosphere of urban fantasy.
The second part will allow gamers to return to the world of Bloodlines, and, hopefully, will not repeat past mistakes. We have to explore the night city, hunt people and participate in the war of vampire factions. Judging by the trailers, the game will have a lot of action, detailed locations and well-developed RPG-mechanics, including a complex dialogue system.
12. Ghost of tsushima
- Platforms: PS 4.
- release date: by the end of the year.
This game is impressive, above all, with its visual style. The animated Japanese landscapes and the staging of the battle scenes are breathtaking. And the setting will definitely appeal to fans of history: Ghost of Tsushima tells the story of the invasion of medieval Japan by the Mongols. If the developers have a successful combat system and a captivating storyline, this action could join the list of the best exclusives for the PlayStation.
13. Halo infinite
- Platforms: PC, Xbox One.
- release date: by the end of the year.
The shooter Halo Infinite is Microsoft's flagship game that the company has high hopes for. Infinite will continue the storyline of Halo 5. But the authors assure that players unfamiliar with the franchise will find it easy to figure it out. The new Slipspace engine is responsible for the graphics, so you should expect more detail in the frame and improved animation quality. It is already known that Halo Infinite will also be released on next generation of consoles.
14. Watch Dogs: Legion
- Platforms: PC, PS 4, Xbox One.
- release date: by the end of the year.
It looks like an experiment awaits the Watch Dogs series of futuristic shooters. Unlike previous installments, Legion won't have a protagonist. You can recruit a squad from the inhabitants of the virtual city and switch between them at the right time. If one of the characters dies, you will have to start playing for the other. How much the gameplay and plot will differ depending on the chosen hero is still unknown.
The action will take place in London in the near future. By plot the English capital has been seized by an authoritarian government that monitors citizens with smart technology. The player will be able to fight against the regime in a variety of ways: from hand-to-hand combat to hacker attacks. In this case, it will be possible to freely move around the city.
15. Elden ring
- Platforms: PC, PS 4, Xbox One.
- release date: by the end of the year.
The studio FromSoftware, which gave gamers Bloodborne and the Dark Souls series, is preparing to release its most ambitious project. This is how the developers position Elden Ring. Not much is known about the game yet: this is an action RPG about the fantasy Middle Ages, which will be the spiritual successor of Dark Souls. But the main thing to know: FromSoftware created the story and mythology of the game with George Martin!
The release date has not yet been officially announced. But, according to very plausible rumors, Elden Ring will be playable this year.
