Youtuber Zack Nilsson, better known as JerryRigEverything, got his hands on a new flagship Galaxy Note20 Ultra - and not at all for personal use. As he ponders whether he should swap his Note10 for a $ 1,300 smartphone, he systematically scratches and breaks parts of the device.
Although it is claimed that the new glass used in the Note20 Gorilla Glass Victus "Four times stronger", one must understand that the comparison of Corning is not with Gorilla Glass 6, but with ordinary glass. Therefore, miracles should not be expected: noticeable scratches leave tools with a hardness of 6 points on the Mohs scale - this is an average result for smartphones with protective glass. For comparison, plastic displays are scratched at 2-3 points.
The display is not friendly with fire: it turns black after about 23 seconds of contact with an open source of fire and does not recover - which is strange, given that LCD panels usually behave this way, but not AMOLED panels. The ultrasonic fingerprint scanner works even if the screen is significantly scratched (for this Zack used a 7 Mohs instrument).
Metal frames are quite easy to scratch; ordinary aluminum is found under the paint. The buttons, like the previous Note, are fairly easy to break completely. It is not possible to bend the smartphone with your hands: the glass does not suffer when you try to bend it in both directions. The S Pen, on the other hand, is fairly easy to break in half when bent.
