As part of the Unpacked presentation, Samsung announced the second generation of a smartphone that folds out into a full-fledged tablet - the Galaxy Z Fold 2. Compared to first model the novelty has noticeably changed.
First of all, Samsung has improved the screens. The external compact display now occupies almost the entire panel, from edge to edge. It has a diagonal of 6.2 inches. At the top of it there is a cutout for the front camera, and a speaker is located above it.
The main large screen has increased to 7.6 inches diagonally. It is protected by the latest glass, which has a minimal thickness and incredible flexibility. The manufacturer abandoned a huge notch for a set of cameras in favor of a single selfie camera built into a small hole. The fingerprint scanner is located at the end.
The hinge mechanism that allows the on-screen panel to bend has also been significantly improved. Now it forms a smaller gap when folded, and in terms of reliability it greatly surpasses the previous solution in the original Galaxy Fold model.
Inside the smartphone is the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ processor, complemented by 12GB of RAM. Two rechargeable batteries with a total capacity of 4,500 mAh are responsible for autonomy.
Nothing is known about the prices and timing of the new items on sale. Samsung will reveal more details about the device at a separate event in September.
