Analytical company Gather published report on deliveries of laptops and PCs in the second quarter of 2020. Experts noted that the market is returning to growth due to strong demand for mobile PCs and the recovery of supply chains after the COVID-19 pandemic.
In total, 64.8 million devices were sold in the quarter, which is 2.8% more than in the second quarter of 2019. Lenovo has become the market leader, but the gap from the next HP is minimal. Here are the 6 most popular laptop and PC brands in 2020:
- Lenovo: 16.19 million devices (25% market share)
- HP: 16.16 million (24.9% market share)
- Dell: 10.64 million (16.4% market share)
- Apple MacBook: 4.36 million (6.7% market share)
- Acer: 4 million (6.2% market share)
- ASUS: 3.59 million (5.5% market share)
- Rest: 9.82 million (15.2% of the market)
The Gather report includes desktops, laptops, premium mobile devices (for example, Microsoft Surface), but not a Chromebook or iPad. All figures are based on a preliminary study of the volume of shipments of devices to warehouses and stores.
Gather analysts also noted that the coronavirus has become not only a problem for the PC market, but also a stimulus for growth. After all, quarantine forced many to move to work from home, which required computers. This allowed us to increase sales in the second quarter of 2020.
