After months of rumors and leaks, Meizu finally unveiled the Meizu 17 flagship smartphone and its Pro version. In terms of characteristics, they are almost identical: only additional cameras, the type of RAM and compatible chargers differ. In addition, the back of the Pro is ceramic, while the regular model has a familiar combination of glass and metal.
Meizu 17 Pro
The older model received a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 90 Hz. This is the first time a Meizu smartphone has used a hole in the screen: it houses a 20-megapixel selfie camera. The display has a built-in fingerprint scanner, HDR 10+ support and the new mEngine 3.0 tactile feedback system.
On the back is a 64MP Sony IMX686 camera, supplemented by an 8MP telephoto lens, which is responsible for 8x zoom without loss of quality, as well as an ultra-wide-angle module of 32MP (129 °). The fourth module is the Samsung S5K3 ToF sensor, which is responsible for measuring depth for portrait mode and augmented reality.
Inside is a top-end Snapdragon 865 processor with a 5G chip, supplemented by up to 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128 or 258 GB of internal memory (UFS 3.1). The 4,500mAh battery supports 30W fast charging and 27W wireless charging. Out of the box, Meizu 17 Pro runs on Android 10 with the new proprietary Flyme 8.1 shell.
It will go on sale in China on May 11 in mint green, white and black colors, the prices are already known:
- 8 + 128 GB - 4,299 yuan (≈44,770 rubles);
- 12 + 256 GB - 4,699 yuan (≈48,940 rubles).
Meizu 17
As already mentioned, this smartphone is almost completely identical to its older brother, but the RAM is 4 GB less, and the older and slower LPDDR4X standard is used. Additional cameras are simpler here: 12 MP (wide) + 8 MP (ultra-wide) + 5 MP (macro). Also, there is no support for wireless charging here. Meizu 17 will be available in green, gray and white colors also on May 11. The prices are as follows:
- 8 + 128 GB - 3,699 yuan (≈38,490 rubles);
- 8 + 256 GB - 3,999 yuan (≈41,690 rubles).
Accessories
Also shown is the Meizu Supercharged 10,000 mAh powerbank. It has two connectors: USB-C and USB-A (the second is used to charge other devices and the powerbank itself). A small display shows the battery level and the current charging power (22.5W maximum). The novelty was valued at 169 yuan (≈ 1,760 rubles).
Finally, another new product is the Meizu HD60 wireless on-ear headphones. This is an updated version of last year's model of the same name, which received the Sony CDX3775 Active Noise Cancellation chip. The aptX codec support, Bluetooth 5.0 connection and audio range from 20 Hz to 40 kHz remained in place.
But the battery life dropped to 17 hours versus 25 for the 2019 model - it seems, precisely because of the active noise cancellation. The novelty will go on sale in China on May 11 at a price of 1,099 yuan (≈11,430 rubles), the release date of the international version has not yet been specified.
