Google Meet is a popular way to host a video conference to discuss work or give lectures. To create an appointment, you need a G Suite account. The service is used by many companies and educational institutions. It runs directly in the browser and can simultaneously connect from 100 people in the basic version to 250 in the Enterprise.
But Google Meet has a significant drawback - it simultaneously displays no more than four conference participants. All other visitors are in the panel at the right edge of the screen.
It would be nice to make the Meet interface a bit more similar to Zoom with its mesh. And there is such an opportunity. Install the Google Meet Enhancement Suite (MES) Chrome Extension. It will add several useful features to Meet.
Please note that the extension only works with Google Meet, not Hangouts. Hangouts is a home solution in which no more than 25 people can call at the same time.
With this extension, the images from the cameras of the conference participants will be arranged in a grid. The invitation screen will also disappear so that you are connected to the meeting as soon as you follow the link.
In addition, MES can automatically mute your microphone and camera, which is useful for students in online lectures, and enable subtitle display. If you need to say something, you will need to hold down the Shift key.
