How to know if someone is reading your Gmail conversation
News Web Services / / January 03, 2021
Those who suspect that they are being followed should take important security measures.
Do you suspect that someone is reading your emails in Google mail - jealous partner, parents or even a tyrant boss. Perhaps your friends received messages that you did not write, or malicious software and spam were sent from your address.
It is unlikely that someone will be able to crack your password, like in the movies. But it is possible to guess it or to lure it out of you by cunning. Or, for example, you could check mail on someone else's computer, and then forget to log out of your account - this often happens.
Fortunately, Gmail has a tool to track unauthorized account logins. Open your mail and find the line "Recent account activity" at the bottom of the screen. Click on "Details".
Here you can see who entered your mail and from where.
It never hurts to click on the "Sign out of all other Gmail sessions" button. If it turns out that you opened your mail on someone else's computer, and then forgot to log out, this button will prevent curious people from reading your correspondence further.
The same information can be obtained by clicking on the icon with your avatar in the upper right corner and select "Manage Google Account" → "Security" → Show Security Events.
Click "Security" → "Manage devices" to see all the gadgets connected to your account. If there is a device there that you definitely do not own, click it and click Sign Out.
If you find suspicious activity in your account, do the following:
- Select Details → Sign Out of All Other Gmail Sessions.
- Click on your avatar → "Google Account Management" → "Security" → "Password". Or just click on this link. Change your password to a newer and more secure one.
- On the Security page, click "Two-factor authentication" and enable additional protections.
