What to do with money after the collapse of the ruble: opinions
News / / January 02, 2021
One of these days we conducted a survey and found out from our readers what they are going to do after the sharp collapse of the ruble exchange rate. Opinions are traditionally divided.
One part of the users believes that they need to wait for the peak of the crisis and then buy equipment until the prices for it are recalculated at the new rate.
Others urge not to panic. After all, such a situation on the market already existed several years ago.
Some readers are sure that by summer the foreign exchange rate will return to its previous framework, therefore they simply will not have time to increase prices, especially when it comes to goods in warehouses purchased under the old cost.
Our editor-in-chief would disagree.
Pavel Fedorov, Chief Editor of LifehackerIn February, I bought my daughter an iPad. When the rate jumped, I decided to buy the same one for myself, until prices were raised. I came to the store, and the prices have already been raised. Five thousand!
On AliExpress, prices have already grown too.
Alexander Kozlov, developer of LifehackerI ordered glass for the tablet on Ali. Monday at $ 74 per dollar. The most unprofitable investment of four dollars.
Those who receive salaries in foreign currency or simply keep their savings in dollars and euros have benefited from the collapse of the ruble.
Holders of ruble deposits will have a much more difficult time.
Elena Gritsun, proofreader of LifehackerUnfortunately, I have a contribution in rubles - for apartment renovation. The collapse of the ruble came as some kind of shock. Now all building materials, appliances and furniture are likely to rise in price. And money was scarce.
I have plans to try to find equipment at a fixed price so far, which will definitely be in the apartment according to the project. And pray to the Pasta Monster that the big stores do not react so quickly to the change in course and sell the leftovers at the old prices.
What the collapse of the ruble will definitely affect is the cost of travel. In the coming days, prices for air tickets and hotels abroad will rise. Therefore, if you were planning to organize your vacation or just pay for a ticket, it is better to do it as early as possible. Perhaps you still have a chance to save money.
Natalia Kopylova, author of LifehackerEverything turned out well for me: I managed to pay for the summer trip at the old rate literally on the last day (there will be few associated expenses), and the spring trip was canceled. It's too late to do something: prices are likely to be raised even for something that does not depend on the dollar. It was necessary to buy up the currency in January (best of all - in January 2012). I still cannot influence prices and the state of the economy, whether it is worth spending nerve cells on it. We must wait until the situation stabilizes so as not to flog the fever.
Although there is another opinion.
If you are not going on vacation and you have no need for new expensive equipment, it is better for now just to observe the situation and not to make hasty decisions, which is also advised by our editor-in-chief.
Polina Nakrainikova, editor-in-chief of LifehackerI do not plan to change my life urgently. It seems that it was necessary to buy up the currency earlier, and it is rather unreasonable to squander all the savings simply because “they will burn out anyway”. All the advice of financial experts now also boils down to one thing - do not panic.
I have a small airbag, so I feel more or less calm. If possible, I will try to report money to it in order to increase the level of confidence and not make financial decisions on emotions. The only thing I'm really worried about is the skyrocketing food prices: caviar On the tables of Russians, the "red price" has long since shifted and I would not like to gain every ruble for buying buckwheat.
Whereas in Russia the weakening of the ruble has hit domestic companies, in the world market many corporations began to suffer losses due to the spread of coronavirus. These two factors significantly increase interest in the investment market, because the shares of many companies began to fall in price, attracting new buyers. According to our publisher, now is the right time for such investments.
Alexey Ponomar, Lifehacker publisherI will gradually build up my investment portfolio, a good moment for this is coming.
And finally, a few more opinions from the readers of the site, answering the question "What to do?"
