Don't torment yourself with things that aren't interesting to you, and don't discount different formats.
In the new episode of The Upgrade podcast, librarians Margaret H. Wilson and Nancy Pearl shared tips to help you read with pleasure and quickly find interesting books in a store or library.
1. Audiobooks are also books
Many people think that listening to a book is not the same as reading it. While these are indeed different experiences, none is more correct than the other. Audiobooks are much more convenient to cram into your schedule, since you can listen to them while doing routine tasks or during jogging is a really good way to meet new authors when you find it difficult to find time to pick up book.

2. Haven't read it for a long time? Start with a story you've already read
A good way to get involved in reading is to reread something familiar that you enjoy. This way, you won't lose track of the story if you accidentally miss a sentence, and the process will feel easier and more enjoyable. And after you have become a habit of reading, you can move on to the new stories with which you wanted to get acquainted.
3. It's okay not to finish reading books
If you don't like a book, it's perfectly okay to put it back on the shelf. For example, I started Endless Joke three times. I have not read it, but I am sure that one day I will - when I am in the right mood for her and I want to finish reading it. Forcing yourself to read something that simply does not go is violence both against yourself and over the book. It seems unfair to you not to give a book a chance to hit you with an ending - in fact, it is much better to wait and read it when you are really interested in the process itself.

4. How to find a book with a dynamic storyline
Better to look at the fiction sections in a store or library, or look at the detective shelves. Open the book and flip through a couple of pages, ignoring the content. If you see that a significant part of the page is white paper, then the plot is dynamic: a lot of white indicates a large number of dialogues - and if there are many dialogues, the plot usually develops fast.
5. How to find a book about people and their experiences
There are two ways:
- Fiction department: look for something with a hero in the title. It can be a name or a short description. For example: "George and Lizzie", "Cheerleader", "My Boy".
- The section with memoirs and biographies: it is obvious that here in the center of the plot there will be a person - and a real person at that.
