Stewed cabbage with apple is often used in Germany as a side dish for meatloafs and other dishes, as it perfectly complements their taste.
Grate the apple on a coarse grater or cut into small pieces. The peel can not be removed, just cut the seeds. Chop the cabbage.
Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Lay out the cabbage and apple and mix well.
After 5 minutes, sprinkle with sugar and cloves, pour over with vinegar. Stir again and add lemon juice.
When the liquid begins to boil, reduce heat to low and simmer, covered, for about 30 minutes. Stir occasionally.
Season the finished cabbage with salt and pepper, sprinkle with chopped herbs.
