There are many reasons why we have to reduce the size of the images. Most often, this is done in order to upload images to the Web or to save space. For a couple of photos, do not bother, because they can be reduced manually. But what if you want to send colleagues to 300 photos of your vacation or throw in Dropbox for parents a couple gigs of pictures of their beloved grandchildren? It will have to somehow automate the process. And for this, we have a remarkable application Automator, which comes bundled with OS X. Well, Dwight figuring out how to use it.
* * *
The potential of the firmware (in OS X) is very large, but it remains unclaimed for the most part. We forget (and sometimes do not even know) that we have such powerful tools, and often turn to third-party applications. And very much in vain, I tell you. After using Automator, included in the OS X, you can easily and beautifully solve many problems, including the right, we zoom out.
The program can create custom scripts that are called
processes, Programs, services, Actions folder, calendar reminders, Print Plug-ins and image capture. The main window contains three panels. On the left are libraries and variables, In the middle of a list of available actions of the selected category, and in the right panel, we drag the needed actions and composing their desired order. In principle, difficulties arise should not - we are accompanied by hints, with an explanation of the selected action in the lower part of the window. To change the resolution of the photo and we will create a service two programs. Go!Resize using the service in the Finder
A very simple way. In the Finder, select the desired files and open the menu Finder - Service - name of our service resize. Just a few clicks and instantly, the selected files will be processed. In order to create such a service, do the following:
- Automator at startup, as the document type select Service;
- In the right pane drop-down list Service receives selected specify files and foldersAnd in the list of programs, select Finder;
- in the left pane, select Files and folders;
- We are in the middle panel Get Selected Finder Items and drag the action in the right pane;
- here (in the middle panel) we find the effect of Copy Finder objects and drag it to the right panel;
- choose A photo in the left panel, and then find pukto Zoom and drag it to the right panel;
It turns out this chain of actions: the service transmits the selected Finder items, then they are copied (to preserve the original) and scaled. You can change the options you want, in which folder to save the modified image, and how to change the resolution (up to the length specified in pixels or as a percentage). After that, save the service menu File - Save. Now it will be available in the list of services through the menu Finder - Service.
Drag & Drop resizing
No less simple way than the previous one. Its essence lies in the fact that you drag and drop files or folders onto the program icon and get the result in the directory specified in advance. How to do it:
- Automator at startup, as the document type select Program;
- in the left pane, select Files and folders;
- in the middle we find the point Get the contents of folders and drag it to the right panel;
- we find item Copy Finder objects;
- In the right pane, select A photo and drag familiar ZoomFrom the middle pane to the right;
As in the first method, in the options, you can specify a location to save the settings and change the image size. Also, you can specify whether to include subfolders in the process.
Save the program and place it in the dock or another convenient place. Now when you drag a folder or file on our program, it processes them and stores. Such a method is slightly faster, because of the fact that the dock is always visible and drag it easier folder or file, you open the menu Finder - Service.
Resize photos with a request for site conservation
This method is similar to the previous one, but it differs in the fact that prior to the treatment program tells you about the place of conservation files. To create such a program, we need to:
- Automator at startup, as the document type select Program;
- in the left pane, select Files and folders;
- we find item Ask for Finder items and drag it to the right pane;
- We are looking for a point Copy Finder objects and move it in our chain of actions;
- we find Zoom and drag it to the right panel;
The settings are always available to us as a choice location for saving and resizing options. Also, you need to tick Allow multiple selectionsIn order to request issued once for a group of files, rather than separately for each file.
Save the program and place it in the dock or wherever you more comfortable. When you drag files to it, it will prompt you, and after processing saves files to a specified folder.
This is just a simple example of using Automator. You might want to expand the functions of the programs created - this is easily done by adding a chain of actions required items. Automator can help solve many problems by taking action on the execution of the routine itself. The main start using them and enjoy its features. I'm sure you'll find a use for it in their daily work and increase your productivity.
All these examples can be downloaded from link. But I recommend to create your own scripts described above - this will help you better understand the Automator. If you have any questions - ask in the comments. Successful you AUTOMATION!
