Nolan is known for his meticulous approach to work, and it seems that with each new painting he only increases the ante. Those who have had a chance to work with him confirm how much he focuses on work, barely steps on the site. He demands a similar dedication from others. In a new cross-interview between Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman on Variety, the actress, who has worked with Nolan twice, told more about his methods.
So, Christopher forbids the use of telephones on the set - this is a fairly common practice among eminent directors. However, there are no chairs on Nolan's set. As Hathaway explained, the reason is simple: according to the director, "if there are chairs on the set, then people will sit on them - and when they sit, they don't work." The actress notes that Nolan almost always meets deadlines and budget - and suspects that the chair rule plays a role in this.
While striving for maximum productivity seems commendable, the filming process is not so much the work of the actors and the team as it is waiting. And if the actors can go to their trailer to take a break, then the team (and the director himself) has no such opportunity. On the Internet, opinions about this method were divided. Many people did not like this approach at all.
Yeah, no. Pregnant people, hidden disabilities, older folks who are perfectly capable except for needing to rest between shots, not to mention hard surfaces on perfectly normal people.

Yeah, so pregnant women, people with disabilities and those who are aged can do without rest between scenes.
not letting people sit for 12+ hr days when most of the day is spent standing around waiting on the director is some bullshit.
- Lex (@lexi_austin) June 29, 2020
Not letting people sit for 12 hours a day while most of the time they just wait for the director's direction is complete nonsense.
Disliking this guy more and more by the day

Every day I like him less and less.
Are there any walls? You know, because of "leaning."

Are there walls? And then you can lean on them, you know.
So we are supporting abusive behavior for the sake of “genius”?
Yeah…. I don’t think so.
Actors are still human beings, they are not machines and this attitude is atrocious- Felicity Smoak (@geekofasgard) June 29, 2020
So we support his abusive behavior just because he is a “genius”? I don't think it's okay. Actors are also people, not machines, and this approach is terrible.
Of course, there were also those who sided with the director.
Here we go. People are going to hate on Nolan for this and say “what about disabled people or the elderly”. I’m sure if you have a disability or you are an elderly person he wouldn’t ban you from sitting down. I think he just doesn’t want people lounging around while working.
- Ethan #BlackLivesMatter (@ TH3HUMANSPIDER) June 29, 2020
Well, it started. People begin to hate Nolan and say "what about the elderly and people with disabilities." I'm sure no one will forbid them to rest. He just doesn't want people to rest. instead work.
Extreme... but he's right.

Tough... but I think he's right.
Not without jokes, too.

So Christopher Nolan hates when people sit, so now we know why he had Batman beat the shit out of Joker in the interrogation scene. pic.twitter.com/3dYFOc6ZjJ
