Research company Canalys published report on the global smartphone market for the second quarter of 2020. He confirmed that Huawei has beaten Samsung for the first time.
Huawei shipped 55.8 million devices, down 5% from the previous year. However, Samsung sank even further, shipping 53.7 million smartphones, down 30% from Q2 2019.
At the same time, Huawei is still subject to US government restrictions that literally stifle the company's business outside of mainland China. The manufacturer's overseas shipments fell 27% in the second quarter. However, in its home market, Huawei managed to increase its share by 8%, to 72%.
The growing popularity of the brand in China, which is the largest mobile market, in many ways allowed it to bypass Samsung in terms of cumulative shipments. This was also influenced by the situation with the coronavirus pandemic, from which China recovered much faster than other countries.
