Travels Avitonomika / / December 30, 2020
1. Karelia
It will appeal to those who do not tolerate the heat: the Karelian summer is warm, but without excesses. Until mid-July, you can find white nights in Petrozavodsk, and in the north of the republic they last until mid-August.
Karelia is an ideal option for fans of outdoor activities. Fishing is good here, and sitting with a fishing rod can be combined with kayaking or cycling. For extreme entertainment, go to the mountain park "Ruskeala». Its main attraction is a marble quarry filled with groundwater and turned into a picturesque lake. There are guided tours of abandoned adits, and you can also take a zipline ride or dive to the bottom of the lake.
On the island of Kizhi in Lake Onega, there is the eponymous museum-reserve, from Petrozavodsk high-speed motor ships go here. The pearl of the museum is the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord. There is a legend that the carpenter Nestor built it with one ax, and then threw the ax into the lake so that no one could repeat his work. This year the restoration of the church was completed, so that the building can finally be seen without scaffolding.
Not far from Petrozavodsk there is Sampo mountain. In guidebooks, it is usually called a mystical place of power, and it is also advised to tie a piece to the local tree of desires to make a cherished dream come true. Whether it works, we find it difficult to say, but the views from the top of Sampo are gorgeous - it's worth a trip here at least for them.
2. Bashkortostan
Perhaps not the most obvious vacation option, but the republic was one of the recognized tourist centers of the country back in Soviet times. What is at least worth Iremel, the second highest peak in the South Urals. The locals considered this mountain sacred: there is a belief that it accepts only those whose thoughts are pure. Excursions to Iremel take 1–2 days, special training is not required, but it is better to stock up on warm clothes.
If mountain walks do not attract you, there is a direct road to Kandrykul Lake. In summer, you can wave here with a tent or stay at a recreation center. For entertainment, fishing, boating and beach vacations are the perfect set to put your worries out of your head and have a digital detox.
When you regain strength, go on an excursion to the Kapova Cave in the Shulgan-Tash nature reserve. This is one of the most popular sights of Bashkortostan: in 1959, rock paintings from the Paleolithic period were discovered here. It takes about 5 hours to get from Ufa to the reserve, so it is better to book a house for the night in advance. website reserve.
3. Tatarstan
You can start your walk around Kazan from the Kremlin. The main symbols of the city are located here - the Kul-Sharif mosque with snow-white walls and a turquoise dome and the leaning Syuyumbike tower. According to legend, the tower tilted after the Kazan ruler Syuyumbike, who did not want to marry Ivan the Terrible, rushed down from its top. In fact, the story is more prosaic: most likely, the building led to the side because of the shallow foundation.
From the Kremlin, walk along the pedestrian Bauman Street. There are souvenir shops at every step, so stock up on chak-chak, talkysh-kaleve (these are pyramids made of honey caramel, reminiscent of compressed cotton candy) and magnets with Kul-Sharif. If you are not afraid of heights, climb the bell tower of the Epiphany Cathedral; an excellent view of the city opens from the observation deck.
In the village of Old Arakchino there is an Ecumenical Temple, it was started to build in 1994 by the architect and sculptor Ildar Khanov. According to Khanov's plan, the temple was supposed to unite 16 religions - both existing to this day and extinct. Services are not held here, but rather an art object demonstrating that representatives of all confessions can live in peace.
If you're lucky with the weather, go on a pleasure boat to Sviyazhsk - you can find out the travel schedule here. The main attraction of Sviyazhsk is the monastery; on its territory there is the Assumption Cathedral, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The walls of the cathedral are decorated with unique frescoes - these are one of the few surviving murals of the 16th century, there is even a rare image of St. Christopher with a horse's head.
For example, in this apartment in the center of Kazan there is wireless internet, cable TV, washing machine, iron, hairdryer, air conditioning, everything for cooking and even its own sauna.

4. Krasnoyarsk region
If you miss the adventure, this is the place for you. Start in the Krasnoyarsk Stolby National Park - buses and taxis run from the city. Those pillars are syenite outliers, fragments of collapsed rocks. There are several hiking trails in the park, you can read in advance descriptions and choose the right one. And be sure to try the local sbiten: after the walk, a warming herbal drink will be very useful.
For a real extreme, go to the Putorana plateau. The area of the basalt mountain range is about 250 thousand km² and is comparable to the area of Great Britain. Most of the plateau is still inaccessible to tourists - in fact, it is a whole lost world with lakes, rivers and waterfalls. It is difficult to get here on your own, so it is better to join the tours from Norilsk and Krasnoyarsk.
Another place that hikers will like is Tunguska reserve. His central estate is located in the village of Vanavara, not far from which in 1908 the Tunguska meteorite fell. On the territory of the reserve there are walking, water and mixed tourist routes, including those repeating the path of the expedition, which went in search of the place where the meteorite fell.
5. Sverdlovsk region
In Yekaterinburg, walking is simple: the city is "Red line»- a walking route covering the main attractions. It begins on the 1905 square, and in order not to lose your way, be guided by the markings on the asphalt.
On the way, you will meet the famous Sevastyanov's house, which is deservedly considered one of the most beautiful buildings in the city, and the Church on the Blood. It stands on the site of the Ipatiev house, in the basement of which Nicholas II, his family and servants were shot. A separate day can be devoted to local monuments: the keyboard, The Beatles, Michael Jackson and Gene Bukin from the series "Happy Together".
If you have time, go to the city of Nevyansk not far from Yekaterinburg. Here is the Nevyanskaya Tower - a unique architectural monument of the 18th century. The tower is not simple, but inclined - the deviation from the vertical is almost 2 meters. There is also an auditory room in the tower: if you stand in one corner of it, you can hear what is being said in whispers in the opposite.
For outdoor recreation, go to the park "Deer streams», It is convenient to get here from Yekaterinburg by car or bus. There are excursion routes in the park: you can walk along the valley of the Sergi River, look into the Arakaevskie caves and visit the Mitkinsky mine, where iron ore was mined.
6. Irkutsk region
Baikal is perhaps the main attraction for which tourists from all over the world come here. Just be warned, the trip to the world's deepest lake won't be cheap, but it's definitely worth it. It is better to plan your trip at the end of July or August. Firstly, by this time the water in Baikal will have time to warm up, and secondly, active tourism in the region is still bannedTourist visiting rules of the Irkutsk region.
The plan is as follows: come to Irkutsk, stock up on food for the trip and go to Listvyanka - about an hour's drive from the city. From Listvyanka, you can follow the path to the village of Bolshie Koty (accent on the first syllable) or stop at a recreation center.
Once we are on Lake Baikal, one cannot do without a trip to Olkhon Island. You can get here from Irkutsk by bus or car, but be prepared that there may be a queue at the ferry crossing. And if hiking romance is not for you, Baikal can be seen from the train window: the Circum-Baikal Railway is laid along the coast. There is even retro train - the route starts right in Irkutsk, so you don't have to puzzle over how to get to the lake.
7. Leningrad region
Those who are in St. Petersburg for the first time should start with a walk in the center. Forget about a clear route: just go where you look, it will still be beautiful around. The summer verandas of the cafe are already open, but you can take away food and have a picnic in the open air.
At least a couple of days should be allocated for Gatchina and Peterhof. Gatchina Park opensGatchina Park will open on July 2, 2020 July 2, and the parks of Peterhof will beginParks of Peterhof with fountains will open to visitors on July 3 receive visitors on July 3. In Gatchina, pay attention to the Priory Palace - it is built of loam pressed into blocks, fastened with a lime mortar. Now it is the only surviving earth-buried structure in Russia.
In the literal sense of the word, you can touch the history in Vyborg and Priozersk. The Vyborg castle was founded in the 13th century, on its territory there is the tower of St. Olaf - it is considered one of the first structures in Vyborg. In Priozersk, it is worth visiting the Korela fortress, founded at the turn of the XIII-XIV centuries.

8. Volgograd region
It is better to go to Volgograd towards the end of August - at this time the heat usually subsides, so you can safely walk. And you have to walk a lot - you can't come to Volgograd and not climb Mamayev Kurgan. When you go to the top, count the steps - there are exactly 200, according to the number of days of the Battle of Stalingrad.
On the territory of the panorama museum "Stalingrad battle»There is an exposition of military equipment from the times of the Great Patriotic War and the ruins of Gerhardt's mill. After the war, the mill was not restored; by its example, one can imagine the state of the city.
The Kazan Cathedral was also damaged during the war. It was restored, and by 2011 a large-scale reconstruction was completed; now it is one of the most beautiful architectural monuments in the city. And when you're done sightseeing, take a ride on the Volgograd tram - a kind of hybrid of tram and metro.
9. Tula region
Tula is a good option for a short vacation or weekend trip. The road from Moscow takes only about 3 hours, but there are many interesting places. Take, for example, the Tula Kremlin - this fortress once defended the path to Moscow and withstood the siege by the troops of the Crimean Khan Devlet-Girey.
On the territory of the Kremlin there is the Assumption Cathedral - the building was built in the 18th century, in Soviet times they were going to open a museum of atheism here, and then the temple was used as a warehouse of manufactured goods. Kazanskaya Embankment is located near the walls of the Kremlin. For a long time this territory belonged to an arms factory, but in 2018 the embankment was landscaped and reopened to the public.
Not far from Tula there is the Kulikovo Pole Museum-Reserve. Just in case, let us recall what the field is like: on September 8, 1380, Russian troops led by Dmitry Donskoy rebuffed the troops of the Golden Horde under the command of Mamai. Each year the museum celebrates the anniversary of the battle, this year the celebration falls on September 17-20. You can view the preliminary program at website museum. They promise a tournament in historical fencing and master classes where you can forge armor or weave a belt for yourself, and the culmination of the holiday will be a battle reconstruction.
10. Chelyabinsk region
And again the expanse for lovers of outdoor recreation. Lake Turgoyak is compared to Lake Baikal in terms of the purity of its water, and on the island of Vera, near the western shore of the lake, there is a complex of megaliths built about 6,000 years ago. In the national park "Zyuratkul»Along the eco-trail you can climb to the ridge of the same name - the way back and forth will take about 5 hours and is suitable even for unprepared tourists. At an altitude of 724 meters, there is one of the highest water bodies of the Southern Urals, it is called - a surprise! - Zyuratkul.
Not far from Zlatoust is the national park "Taganay». However, it can be called a park at a stretch - it is rather a small mountainous country with an area of 568 km². The park is inhabited by mammals, birds and fish from the Red Book, so forget about hunting and fishing - only hiking, only hardcore.
From July 1, the historical and cultural reserve “Arkaim». The remains of dwellings from the Bronze Age, defensive ramparts and a reconstructed fragment of the fortress wall have been preserved here. Stone Age "houses" have been recreated on the territory of the reserve: you can not only look at the everyday life of ancient people, but also make tools out of stone with your own hands.
