One of the myths about coronavirus states that smokers are less susceptible to infection. It is not known where this claim came from, but it can be said with certainty that there is no reason to believe so. Rather, the opposite is true. A medical study based on data from 78 patients showed that smoking patients had a 14% higher risk of developing pneumonia with COVID-19. This is especially true for elderly patients, in whom complications during the course of the disease are observed much more often.

In other words, smoking can increase the risk of complications from a respiratory infection that can affect a person's respiratory system. This also applies to the disease COVID-19, the course of which can be complicated by problems with mild and chronic ailments.
