1. Exchange leave
The holiday
- USA, 2006.
- Melodrama, comedy.
- Duration: 130 minutes.
- IMDb: 6.9.
Englishwoman Iris meets American Amanda on the Internet. Women decide to exchange houses for a while in order to break out of the routine for at least a couple of weeks. Amanda moves to a cozy cottage in the English countryside, and Iris goes to California.
Thanks to the unusual vacation, the heroines will make new acquaintances, and they will also have a notable portion of Christmas miracles. Warm and touching to tears, the film is perfect for a lazy weekend when you don't feel like getting out of bed all day.

2. Toughie
Die hard
- USA, 1988.
- Action movie.
- Duration: 126 minutes.
- IMDb: 8.2.
Eternally living classics. Police Officer John McClain wants to mend his relationship with Holly's wife. For this, he travels to Los Angeles and comes to the Christmas party of the company where his wife works. Surprise: unexpected guests - terrorist Hans Gruber and his henchmen - decided to visit the corporate party.
The film is more than 30 years old, so by the standards of modern action films, it can look rather ingenuous. But, if for some reason you still don’t know how the meeting between McClain and Gruber will end, be sure to take a look.

3. Murder on the Orient Express
Murder on the orient express
- Malta, USA, 2017.
- Detective, crime, drama.
- Duration: 109 minutes.
- IMDb: 6.5.
Traveling on a luxury train turns out to be difficult and controversial for Hercule Poirot. American Edward Ratchett asks for the protection of a suspicious-looking detective, he refuses, and soon Ratchett is found murdered. Each of the passengers or service personnel can be a criminal.
It is rather strange to be afraid of spoilers for the film, which is based on the 1934 novel by Agatha Christie, but we will not reveal the main intrigue. Even if you already know who is responsible for the death of an unpleasant American, the film is worth watching, if only because of the excellent cast. Hercule Poirot plays Kenneth Branagh, Edward Ratchett plays Johnny Depp, and among the passengers you will meet Judy Dench, Willem Dafoe, Michelle Pfeiffer and Penelope Cruz.

4. Lord of the rings, Brotherhood of the ring
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
- USA, New Zealand, 2001.
- Fantasy, adventure.
- Duration: 171 minutes.
- IMDb: 8.8.
Winter weekend is the perfect time to stock up on food and have a movie marathon. If you do not feel the strength to watch the entire Peter Jackson trilogy at a time, you can limit yourself to the first film. The dark lord Sauron begins the hunt for the Ring of Power, which was believed to be lost. At the council of people, dwarves and elves, it was decided to get rid of the artifact by melting it in the fire of Mount Doom.
One problem - you need to secretly deliver the Ring to the enemy's lair. The hobbit Frodo Baggins takes on this task. He is joined by his fellow hobbits, the wizard Gandalf, the elf Legolas, the dwarf Gimli, and the humans Boromir and Aragorn. The fraternity has a long and arduous three-film journey ahead.

5. Golden eye
GoldenEye
- UK, USA, 1995.
- Action, adventure.
- Duration: 124 minutes.
- IMDb: 7.2.
In the late 80s, James Bond and his partner Alec Trevelyan, played by Sean Bean, find themselves on a mission in Arkhangelsk, where a colleague of the super agent is predictably killed. After a while, fate again throws Bond into Russia.
This film seems like a perfect collection of all the cranberry stereotypes about Russia. Eternal snows and the Russian mafia are still all right, but here even space satellites are proudly named Petya and Misha. Golden Eye is great for evenings when there is not much to do and you want to see something interesting, but without pretensions. After all, when else will you see Bond driving a tank around St. Petersburg?

6. Real love
Love actually
- UK, USA, France, 2003.
- Melodrama, comedy.
- Duration: 129 minutes.
- IMDb: 7.6.
Nine stories intertwined on Christmas Eve prove once again that love is the very feeling that rules everyone around. And yes, it can be different - from incinerating passion to tender care and friendship.
Director Richard Curtis admitted that he decided to combine several stories in one film simply due to the fact that it would take 3-4 years to shoot each one separately - that would not be enough for such a life. As a result, "Real Love" has become a permanent participant in the tops of the most New Year's films. However, no one forbids revising it after the holidays.

7. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
- UK, USA, 2001.
- Fantasy, adventure.
- Duration: 146 minutes.
- IMDb: 7.6.
With the Harry Potter films, the situation is the same as with The Lord of the Rings: ideally, you should watch the entire series of films in full, but if you don't have time, limit yourself to at least the first episode. Harry's orphan lives with his uncle and aunt, and when he turns eleven, Potter suddenly finds out that he is going to study at a school of wizardry.
Films about the boy who survived are ideal for family sit-downs. When you get to the second part of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows", stock up on handkerchiefs. They will come in handy in the heartbreaking dialogue scene between Dumbledore and Professor Snape:
— After so many years?
— Always.

Because you don't need a reason to see Queen's story again. It all starts at the concert of the Smile group, where the student of the art college Farrukh Bulsara comes, and the first records, tours and worldwide success await the future stars. The film does not claim to have a detailed biography, but it is quite suitable for acquaintance with the life of the legendary Freddie Mercury.
It is worth watching "Bohemian Rhapsody" at least because of the soundtrack: here you can find Somebody to Love, I Want to Break Free, and, of course, Bohemian Rhapsody. The film's key scene is Queen's performance at the Live Aid benefit concert. Do not even hesitate, you will definitely sing along.
