World health organization released new guidelines for children's wearing masks - just before the start of the school year in many countries. So, children under 5 years old do not need to wear masks - since at this age they, as a rule, are not able to put on protective equipment on their own.
On the other hand, children 6-12 years old should wear masks under certain conditions - for example, when the incidence of diseases in this city or area increases, and if they are in contact with older people - or people at high risk - and if adults can help them put on a mask right
But for children 12 years and older, the WHO recommendations are the same as for adults: masks must be worn - just like maintaining social distance.
To develop new recommendations, WHO worked closely with UNICEF (an international organization led by the United Nations, whose main task is to improve the health and well-being of children around the world) and other authorities and experts. The guide also clarifies that existing research is insufficient, but suggests that young children are less susceptible to COVID-19 than adults. But this changes with age, and older children are more likely to become carriers of the disease.
