On HBO (in Russia - on Amediateka) the premiere of the first episode of the series Lovecraft Country based on the novel of the same name by Matt Ruff took place. This is the story of a dark-skinned Korean War veteran who crosses the country in search of his father and faces not only racism, but also supernatural horror.
It is noteworthy that among the executive producers of the project are Jordan Peel (Get Out, We) and JJ Abrams, so expectations from him were high. And judging by the reaction of the Web, the creators did not disappoint.
Anyway, go watch #LovecraftCountry on HBO. The special effects are great, the production and costume design are gorgeous, the editing and cinematography are superb, and the soundtrack is fucking killer. There isn’t a single thing I’d change. I love it. I am in love with it. pic.twitter.com/OaeaNH8co7

Watch Lovecraft Country on HBO. The special effects are great, the production and costume design are great, the editing and filming are amazing, and the soundtrack only makes it better. There is not a single thing that I would like to change. I already love this show.

Holy shit #LovecraftCountry... I expected it to be a slow burn cos HBO but that was a very exciting hour of television! pic.twitter.com/2QBdLcX60k

I expected the plot to go slowly because this is HBO, but it was a very dynamic watch series!
Some television shows build their worlds quietly and pace themselves at the beginning. #LovecraftCountry starts and it says “Jackie Robinson’s here and he just killed Cthulhu with a baseball bat, STRAP YOURSELF IN, YOU AIN’T READY!” pic.twitter.com/tNuqJtrDO3

Some TV shows build the world gradually and seem rather slow at first. At the same time, Lovecraft Country begins with Jackie Robinson [famous American baseball player] killing Cthulhu with a baseball bat. Fasten your seat belts, you're not ready for what you see!
been waiting like HECK for #LovecraftCountry to drop & boy did it not disappoint! no idea where it's going, but the foundation for the story is AMAZING. pic.twitter.com/Mil6OXappR

I was looking forward to the series and was not disappointed. I have no idea what will happen next, but the plot outline looks interesting.
WOW Lovecraft Country is like incredible HP Lovecraft fanfic that replaces his racism with anti-racism and EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH THIS.

WOW. Lovecraft Country is some terrific fanfiction of the Howard Lovecraft universe, from which all racism has been removed. Everyone should see it!
#LovecraftCountry is extraordinary. I'm shook and scared and obsessed. Watched w / my SFF-loving, grumpy ass dad, and he was riveted.
I've craved this kind of storytelling. Phenomenal.
Adaptation at its best. I aspire to have something as good made. pic.twitter.com/wS5LdrVOiJ

It is excellent. I'm thrilled, scared and wanting more at the same time. I watched with my dad, who loves science fiction and fantasy, and he watched without stopping. I missed these scenarios, it's amazing. Very good adaptation, and I hope that we will see other works of this level.
See. This how you supposed to run in a horror movie. We don’t play.#LovecraftCountry@jurneesmollett@LovecraftHBOpic.twitter.com/YzgbWflupU

THIS is how people in horror movies should run. This is not a game!
We noticed in the series references to important historical photographs dedicated to the problem of racism.
I want everyone to notice how @LovecraftHBO recreated powerful imagery from the segregated south.
On the LEFT is Gordon Park's 1956 photograph outside a department store in Mobile, Alabama.
On the RIGHT is a brief scene from #LovecraftCountry.

You just have to see how well the show recreates the south of the segregation era. Left is a 1956 photograph of Gordon Park showing a store in Alabama with a separate entrance for people of color. On the right is a shot from a short scene in Lovecraft Country.
Like... have we seen something like this before? LOVED this.

Has this ever happened before [in the cinema]? I am delighted. "The World's Highest Living Standard" by Margaret Bourke-White and a frame from Lovecraft Country.
New episodes will continue to air on Sundays with a total of 10 episodes planned.
