Last night, many large companies and celebrities appeared on Twitter accounts almost simultaneously records with an offer to transfer them a certain amount in bitcoins, in order to get back twice as much later money. Of course, they were scammers who have made one of the most massive hacker attacks.
They hacked many verified profiles, including the accounts of Elon Musk, Joe Biden, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Kanye West and even Apple, where until this day there was no tweet. Messages of a different plan appeared in the accounts of Bitcoin, Ripple, Coinbase and Binance - they promised to distribute 5 thousand bitcoins to users. It was only necessary to follow the link, which, of course, led to a fake site.
Twitter limited the sending of new tweets to all verified accounts only an hour after the attack. After some time, the company's developers reported that hackers hacked into Twitter employees, thanks to which they managed to gain access to many user profiles.
We detected what we believe to be a coordinated social engineering attack by people who successfully targeted some of our employees with access to internal systems and tools.
