A new thread from photographer Alexander Sukharev has appeared on Twitter. He had previously published photos of 80 abandoned places that he visited during 12 years of travel around the world. His new thread centered around abandoned monuments in the former Yugoslavia. Few people have heard about them, but it looks just amazing.

They have been designed by various sculptors and architects. They convey a powerful visual effect to show the confidence and strength of the Socialist Republic. In the 1980s, these monuments were visited by millions of people a year, especially the pioneers for “patriotic education”.

After the Republic was dissolved in the early 1990s, they were completely abandoned and their symbolic meaning was lost.

The Tjentište Monument is the most famous and popular monument of Yugoslavia under Josip Broz Tito. More than 1 million people attended. Located in the valley of the Sutjeske river.
