Layfhaker lot of time telling you about the program Viber. For example, how Viber replaces regular phone. Today we introduce you to the man who invented this application. Igor Magazinnik - co-founder and CEO of Viber. You will learn how the project management system they use, as well as Igor works with the mail.
What do you do in your work?
Engaged in the technical direction of the company Viber (CTO). At the moment, the company employs more than 100 people (mostly in Israel and Belarus). I hope that Viber needs no introduction, and more information can be found at our website. Before it was engaged in many projects, including one of the first P2P services - iMesh.
How does your workplace?
My workplace is often changing. Until a few weeks ago it was the laptop (Lenovo X1 Carbon), connected to an external monitor and keyboard, but since we develop products for different platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux) is now, for example, is the Mac Mini, connected to the same monitor and keyboard.
Maybe a couple of weeks it will be something else. Chances are - iMac. The most outlandish bundle on my desk right now - is the keyboard Microsoft Natural Keyboard, connected to the Mac Mini.
What hardware are using?
When talking about the current configuration, this Mac Mini 2012 (pretty weak, but even easier to look for problems in our products). Monitor - DELL U2312HM. Here are the keyboard and mouse difficult for me to leave, when get used to, so I now quite rare set. :) Keyboard Microsoft Natural Keyboard and very colored mouse Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0, which gave me a good, Microsoft has a lot of years ago.
What software use?
As already written recently trying to wean itself from dependence to a specific OS. Previously, it was Windows 7 (on Windows 8 did not want to move, do not always like it when your fingers touch the display). Now it is OS X 10.9. Such a transition is possible mainly due to the fact that most of my work takes place in the browser. Basic tools:
- Browser - now use Google Chrome. Before that CoolNovo - browser based on Chromium, but with some useful gadgets. I had to be abandoned for lack of support for OS X.
- Plug-ins for the browser - AdBlock, Checker Plus for Gmail, Yet Another Drag and Go.
- Mail - use Google Apps, Gmail analogue paid for organizations. Mail reply permanently once comes. Very few mails leave it for later. When not at work, answer your phone (iPhone 5).
- Atlassian JIRA - is the heart of our process. This project management system and tasks. How else to know what to do and to whom?
- Atlassian Confluence - Corporate Wiki system. If you want to see something done, whether it is good, describe it in the Wiki. Sometimes good people jotted down the comments, and interesting discussion begins.
- messengers - the most important thing, of course, Viber. Their products should always use. For some of the things that Viber until (hopefully not for long) can not (for example, video-conference) - Skype. Both are constantly running in the background.
- Cloud storage - sometimes using Google Drive and DropboxBut basically all the work trying to keep in Confluence.
Is there a place in your paper work?
I try not to use paper. If sometimes you have to write something, and it is inconvenient to do on the computer, write down on a piece of paper and try to translate in a very short time in the form of e-mail or tasks in JIRA. After this piece of paper is ejected. Most effectively execute all tasks in a JIRA, Confluence Speck, etc. - so less chance that something will be lost or forgotten.
