What do you do in your work?
I - Head of Product at Ecwid. The boys are doing a service that allows you to quickly create an online store and add it to any existing website, blog or Facebook page. We have a free version and we are working very well with Wix - try it!
I love to make products that make people's lives easier. When against your decisions, hundreds of thousands of people have become a little happier - it is an amazing feeling. However, if you make a mistake, they will be a little unhappy, so it's very exciting work.
But as in any startup I do not have a well-defined sphere of activity - doing all of which can benefit and make "Ecwid" better.
How does your workplace?
When you are doing things you love, whom you constantly think, any place partially operating. At any time you can come to a cool idea or require your attention ( «SMS from Zabbix, if you know what I mean»). Well, binding themselves to a certain period of time and the chair (! "9: 00-18: 00, Mon-Fri" - brrr) I think very restrictive and boring idea.
Therefore, we once made four important things that greatly influenced the culture of the team.
- We introduced a completely free schedule and free presence in the office. That is, I can work at a time that is the most convenient for me (hello, covy!) And quiet make any necessary personal business day (hello, near-state office working to 17:00!).
- Issued to each member of the team a laptop. This allows any place with internet to turn into a temporary mini-office and does not need any administrator who decides for you which version you have to use the browser.
- We held in the office open and very fast Wi-Fi. It detaches from place to place in the office - you can take with any dude and something quick to discuss.
- Switched to Google Apps, to minimize the cost of maintaining the internal infrastructure.
I guess I would be very difficult now to work without these things - you get used to the good. In this case, I find it difficult to work from home, more distracting. I tried to come up with various artful pieces, for example, different home places for work and leisure, different clothes mode "work" and "rest", rituals started ( "Every time I start with a mug coffee"). All of this helps, but I still work much better in our Ecwid HQ. At the same time our team has guys who for several years working from home with absolutely incredible efficiency. Apparently, it's all different.
To the office, I'm like a club house - a place where going to a team of associates who are united some idea.
There I have my "place of power", which somehow comes the most excellent ideas are breynshtormy and shape the future of our product. It looks something like this:
On my desk is usually a terrible mess: different records, strange toys, wires, a bunch of mugs, comics and various other junk. Several times a year trying to clean up there - once it becomes uncomfortable. Thankfully, a couple of days, everything comes back to normal.
What hardware are using?
Five years ago, I passed on the Mac, and very satisfied. Now I use MacBook Pro Retina 15 "SSD to 250Gb and 8Gb Ram. In the office, it is often connected to the monitor. Mouse and keyboard also from Apple. The same laptop use both at work and for personal use - it is very convenient, and reduces time for context switching. You can start doing some thing, then shut the lid, come home, open and continue from where you left off. Well, the opportunity to work 5-6 hours in the airport or in a park without convulsive search outlet - it's magic.
Phone - iPhone 4S, before that was a few years old iPhone 3G.
I do not know, by the way, guys who say that "the main thing that the phone rang." Calls it's probably the least used feature of my iPhone (as any geek sociopath, I'm afraid to talk with the voice of human beings). It is no longer a phone - it is a portable communication device, a piece of the future, virtual assistant, our Pip-Boy, which gives us access to all the data on the planet and doing many other useful within seconds of things. Voluntarily deprive themselves of such useful things as the least strange.
The main reason why I chose the Apple ecosystem - they take all unimportant decisions for me. There is a concept of "fatigue from decision-making." Each time a person makes a choice, he spends a few valuable limited resource. Too many decisions every day, and the resource is exhausted, leading to the various bad things: the reluctance make decisions in general elections counterintuitive ( "anything, just let us quickly decide"), loss self-control. here here more.
I take a lot of product solutions every day, so I want to make decisions in less important things to a minimum. Apple gives me the opportunity to do so. I understand that not everyone is suited, and someone on the contrary suffers from a lack of decision-making - Android it is perfect.
Generally, by the way, I love to debate iOSvsAndroid - they are very funny. I have a theory that if a person vehemently scolds iOS / iPhone and "only Android, but hardcore, Apple Only Marketing! ", so he never took part in creating a truly successful mass b2c products. If accepted, it is usually related to iOS completely different, even if the man and prefer Android.
What software use?
Always use the latest version of Mac OS X. Who 10.8.5 (Mountain Lion). Mavericks forward to the release. There's a new cool support for external monitors and a great time working on the battery - the two most needed me of cool chips.
As a browser using Chrome. Was a hardcore fan "Opera" and used it to v5.0, when it is still not as well supported Cyrillic. But 4 years ago I moved to the "Chrome", and I do not regret. Chrome use real estate development branch - it is updated more often usual stable and gives me the opportunity to try out new features before the general users.
Post office. I use Gmail, tied to our domain ecwid.com. I tried almost all notable desktop mail clients for Mac - Apple Mail, Sparrow, Postbox, Airmail, Mailplan, and each is something not satisfied. Therefore, using the web version and wait until Airmail finished - he gives the most hope.
I try to read e-mail as little as possible, so as not to distract from the planned tasks for today. Mail is TODO list, which is made by other people for you. Your own TODO list should have priority.
Gmail uses three tricks:

Pocket - then keep the article, which should be read. If you meet an interesting article, then I do not read it at once, and save through the Chrome extension in Pocket. In the evening, when I have time, I read them already, "iPads". Unfortunately, there continues to become much more than I can read, so there I have accumulated a couple hundred relevant records. 1Password - if I was asked to highlight the most useful applications to improve productivity, I would choose 1Password. My best investment in their own efficiency. I ceased to remember passwords at all and freed memory for more useful items.
OmniFocus - here I live Taxco and TODO lists. "Omnifokus" cool, but I use it the possibility of a 5% interest. I tried Things, but it does not support nested projects, so that did not fit. Last time I want to try to go to the TODO on paper.
Captured + imgur.com - skrinshotilka best screen in the world with the best service for storing pictures. I press the standard shortcut Cmd + Shift + 5, allocate the desired area and in a couple of seconds in my clipboard straight (!) Link to the uploaded picture. TweetBot - Twitter client on the desktop, phone and iPads. Two-killer features: Sync reading and the ability to make mute person, or Twitter hashtag application / client. For example, you can not show all tweets with hashtag # 4sq or all of the Tweets from a particular service.
Eggscelent - the most convenient for the customer Pomodoro, which I found. It helps to concentrate.
Hackpad - it's awesome wiki platform. Here'm all personal notes and drafts. The guys did a really great product - all highly recommend. All documents from Hackpad backup automatically in my Dropbox account.
Vox - for music or online radio. iTunes too heavy, and Vox this as Winamp 2.x in his best years.

Is there a dream configuration?
As far as I can remember, we have a law that requires the presence of a cafe toilet. I want a law that will also require in cafes, parks and public Wi-Fi and sockets. It makes me a little happier.
