Oksana Selendeeva
The founder of the school of programming for Coddy children. Until the decree was in charge of marketing "Savings Bank" in Moscow. Previously worked in marketing at Ericsson and BTL in "UniCredit" bank; Mercedes and MasterCard conducted projects in the agency JWT; I worked in the MTC. He holds a degree in Marketing Chartered Institute of Marketing (Chartered Institute of Marketing).
What do you do in your work?
I run your startup Coddy. This is a school where children from 5 to 14 years learn how to create websites, games, applications and cartoons, process graphics and writing electronic music, as well as developing entrepreneurial skills and learn English language. Through programming we teach children to think for themselves and reveal their potential.
I dedicate this project to 16 hours, seven days a week.
What is your occupation?
My first higher education - economic. In 1990, when I came to the university, the most demanded professions were a lawyer and economist. My brother became a lawyer, and I decided to be an economist. Second education is also associated with the finances.
The same line was going to continue at the London Business School. But while working in MTS I had problems related to the marketing and organization of events, and I realized it was mine.
I believe that academic education is necessary for several reasons.
- It teaches discipline. You have to pass exams, and next to no mothers and fathers who are watching your estimates.
- It socializes. I know that many during their studies are friends, partners and colleagues, and many universities provide good opportunities for internships.
- At university you learn to master new disciplines and to solve unfamiliar problems in the shortest possible time and with limited resources.
On the other hand, success is not always dependent on the diploma. Successful people are among those who work in the specialty, and among those who dropped out. I'm living with the following principle: "Better experience can only be an experience." The theory - it is useful, but it does not replace experience. No matter how much you may have learned something, you'll never really know how it is, until you start doing.
What are your strengths and weaknesses?
Their strong qualities believe hard work, lack of fear of failure, commitment and competitive spirit.
Last dominates my character. In my youth I professionally engaged in swimming and jumping, and to achieve something, had to compare yourself with others.
In the pool I had a rival, taller and more flexible. She was often ahead if it is the first, I second; if the second, I third. It motivated me!
Learn English also "helped" classmate - an excellent pupil, all this is correct, of those who teach each subject. I was so much annoyed that to overshadow her, I started to learn English on their own.
On the disadvantages. I am struggling with maximalism. If I have something does not work or it turns out not to the extent as we would like, I am very upset. I'm learning to let go of things that are not worth my experience, wondering how the incident is critical.
Also often have too high demands on people. I like purposeful, strong character, intelligent. I try to be tolerant.
Not yet fully mastered the art of time management. All smart books they write, what you need to maintain a balance between personal life and work. I often violate it, usually in the direction of the work.
But there are amazing women who succeed at work, engaged children and find time for yourself. For example, Natalia Alymova. She was my boss in the "UniCredit", and now occupies a high position in the "Savings Bank". Natalia combines a huge responsibility on the job with skill in the seven or eight in the evening to go home to her husband and children. She spends time with the family and at the same time fulfills and exceeds plans. I think with such a load to balance - it is a miracle. I aspire to it.
How do you manage to combine the role of mothers and the head?
The first four months after giving birth, I debug mode and build time management, taking into account the new role - the role of the mother. This book helped me a lot Gina Ford "System" pretty baby "from 0 to 1 year old." She became my anthologies during this period.
When the baby was four months, I was back in my life sport, established business. We have learned to live comfortably the three of us - me, my husband and daughter. Even traveled for a month in the United States.
In a year and three months, we sent the daughter to a private kindergarten, a couple of months ago we had a nanny. She Nika, when my daughter is ill, or on weekends, when I'm on the training grounds.
Her husband works as I am, if not more. His work involves constant travel around the world. We both like to work, but the family remains a priority.
We spend the evening together, and sometimes we arrange family day. On such a day we set aside all the things that can be postponed, disappear from your mail and messenger. At all events, where permitted, we try to take Nick himself. In public, she behaves calmly, it is easily possible to take a walk with our partners, to the museum and even a gala reception. We want now to show her as much as possible, so that she could see what is happening around, not just in the garden.
How does your workplace?
I do not have permanent jobs - could work at home, at Starbucks, our partners' sites in the offices. You could say that my work place - a laptop and phone.
In my MacBook Air. Like macOS terms of consumerization, but the performance of MacBook Air I miss, as I constantly opened countless windows, tabs and graphics editors in browser. I would change it to the same, but with 16 GB of RAM.
As the browser uses Safari, Chrome since much load MacBook.
I use almost all popular instant messengers: WhatsApp, Viber, Telegram, Facebook, FaceTime (where I often talk with the United States). It is also active in almost all social networks from Facebook to Pinterest.
regularly visit LinkedIn. Registered in 2006, and the number of my contacts there is close to 30 thousand. Facebook for me more fun, and LinkedIn is interesting to me to read articles and opinions. It attracts that in this social network is mainly people like my way of life, and the audience is much more responsive than to Facebook. For me, it is a platform to find partners.
A couple of years ago, LinkedIn made almost a miracle. A friend came to me for help: for her actions needed astronaut. Cosmonaut! That he was in space and conveyed greetings from there. Especially not hope for success, I wrote about this on LinkedIn. Within an hour I had three contacts: a woman astronaut, direct contact to "Roskosmos" and the personal touch of the astronaut. I contacted him, and he not only participated, but also asked to translate your entire fee to charity.
My phone - BlackBerry Passport. Opt for these phones out of habit, since the days of "UniCredit" (where they were corporate). In addition, I write a lot, and I prefer to do it on the keyboard. The phone is very clever, but with applications, of course, the trouble. I can not even pay for parking, or use the navigator. It seems to me that WhatsApp and I have some kind of fake. :)
The notifications deliberately refused - distracting. I check messengers when ready to give it time. However, staying in touch, I answer quickly enough.
What is in your bag?
I carry a laptop, phone and charge it. Lots of talk, the battery sometimes does not suffice even for half a day.
Inside the bag there is always the headphones because I can work in different places, notebook and pens, as well as two external battery.
How do you organize your time?
Time management using «Google Calendar" and Trello. In Trello is accumulated workloads: it lists on organizational matters, website, PR, and other tasks. I put labels on urgent business and business in the process, but most of the information will still have in mind.
Personal files write on the stickers and paste them on the painting that hangs in my kitchen to see them in the morning. They are usually a little bit, for example, now not at all.
What's your daily routine?
I can be a lark, and the owl, depending on the task.
From Monday to Friday, I get up at 7:35. Quickly going and I'm taking my daughter to kindergarten, by the way buy a cappuccino. Then I start to work. All day - conversations, meetings, working at a laptop very vigorously, almost in the same breath.
When required, change the focus. If the analytical work at some point does not go, I switch to the creative tasks, communication with the team, drawing a design. Enjoy the art, easy to go back to the analyst.
I go to bed at different times. But before going to bed 20-30 minutes always read or watch documentaries. For example, last night watched the film, how to treat schizophrenia, continue today. Usually the study of one subject takes me two or two and a half weeks.
On Saturday and Sunday, from nine in the morning I am on Coddy sites and come home closer to ten at night. Here are my weekend. :) But sometimes I arrange myself a real vacation.
Hard work is not equal to the work wear.
I try to listen to myself. If you feel that not enough strength to recover. Previously, it was impossible to listen to the body. Now I can pick up everything on stage lung symptoms. It is inextricably linked with intuition. Both the ability to come to me after thirty.
How to pass the time in traffic jams?
While away it in the mail and instant messengers - there always is, on what to say and what to discuss. Fortunately, almost anywhere there is an Internet. But even if it is not, I am not bored. For example, I can to meet someone or go to the bookstore.
What's your hobby?
- Sports - kite surfing, skiing, biking. Very much I love wakeboarding, playing tennis. Three times a week I train for 20 minutes through the system EMS.
- The science. Paradoxically, but the rest of me - it is the brain loading. I read a lot of non-fiction literature. Prefer while paper books - from electronic eye fatigue. I love when the house a lot of books, they are part of my ecosystem. Parents have a large library, I grew up in this environment, so I dream of my house with an office where there is a huge wall of books.
- Trip. I travel a lot - about six times a year, or even more. The most interesting journey for me - people. Watch the locals - the best way to gain new experiences and break down their own barriers. This helps in the business we safely write to the central offices of Facebook, Google offers on cooperation. It's much easier than you think, the main thing - to try.
Layfhakerstvo Oksana Selendeevoy
I recommend reading:
- «Blue ocean strategy. How to find or create a market, free from other players"Kim Chang and Rene Moborn. Classics of the genre. First read this book back in 2005, and recently gave me her again. Now, it is perceived differently. Rethought many things as in fiction.
- «TED presentation style. 9 receptions world's best performances"Carmine Gallo. Just for inspiration.
- Paul Ekman book about the psychology of interpersonal communication and detecting lies.
I like to relax over dark serials "acute visors», «Dexter», «This detective», «Bridge», «Hannibal». This is a real sedated, when your real world goes by the wayside.
What is your life motto?
I always difficult to answer questions such as: will take a month or even a day, and everything will change. I'll try to hide behind the successful people, and choose your favorite quotes.
- "Success - is a movement from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm." Winston Churchill.
- "In a rapidly changing world, the only guaranteed losing strategy - never risk it." Mark Zuckerberg.
- "I'm sure you can not let that stop you miserable little word" no "." Richard Branson.
- "Half of what separates the successful entrepreneurs from the losers - is perseverance." Steve Jobs.
And I repeat my guiding principle: "Better experience can only experience." I urge all not to reason out or not, but just do it. Even in case of failure will experience the coordinates for the next steps.
