Clever and stupid Albert Rex, or how to overcome the desire to do nothing
Inspiration / / December 26, 2019
We want to believe that we are very clever. However, our incredibly wise and powerful brain - it's the same brain that forgets what he was doing Two minutes ago, I put all things on and then can not link the pair of words in the presence of a beautiful girl.
We have evolved from single-celled creatures, and they are still sitting in our head and wake up at the most inopportune moment. Can we overcome them? Yes.
Let's call a rational, wise Albert part of our brain. He lives in our head next door to the impulsive dinosaur Rex.
When you see an unfamiliar beautiful girl and trying to talk to her, Rex is activated, and you start to sweat, grunt and publish incomprehensible sounds. Rex - it's your emotions, instincts, feelings and fears.
Statement as we used to think about how Alberta - wise, deliberate and rational person. You have decided to join the gym? Albert took this decision. But Albert is old, gets tired easily and often falls asleep. And then in the case turns on Rex.
Our brain is in a constant fight between Albert, balanced and often fall asleep professor, and Rex, impulsive dinosaur with an endless flow of energy that is constantly trying to lead us to the right place.
Rex listening to Albert. He's like a child who listens to an adult, but often still does what he pleases. And if instead of going to the gym and a proper dinner wanted to see the show and eat a cheeseburger, guess what you do. Sometimes, however, Albert still prevails, and then mankind invents penicillin, flying in space and creates a creative masterpieces.
So we quietly crept to the issue of procrastination. We make decisions and then wonder why we do not get to follow them. The problem is that decisions are made by Albert and Rex tries to perform. Imagine that you are trying to convince a child to do what you need. For simple things like calling for dinner will suffice your credibility. But what if he does not listen? That's what:
- Forget logic. Once you have made the decision logic and rational thinking will not help you carry it out. Your inner dinosaur may be scared, excited or peaceful. But the voice of logic, he will not listen.
- The comfort. If you're hungry, tired or depressed, Rex rebel. For the adoption and implementation of the important decisions you have to be in comfort.
- Discipline yourself. Build a routine of healthy habits that you follow every day. Reward yourself for meeting them and enter the penalty for their mistakes.
- Turn emotions. Rex listens to emotions. So, if you're determined to get down to business, motivate themselves. Or frighten consequences. Something like that, when we say to children: "Brush your teeth every day, or else they will fall out."
- Start = success. Start the hardest, so if you happen to go to start, then this is the key to success.
- Create the right atmosphere. If Rex sees Facebook icon, he will want to click on it, as if Albert it nor resist. What to do in this case? That's right, do not show the Rex icon. Create an atmosphere that will push you to the productivity and protect against procrastination. Perhaps we should divide their working and non-working space.
Rex foot is always on the brake pedal. If you do him a good friend and mentor, he will listen to you, and never to her not clicks. The main thing - remember who's in charge here.
