A week ago, Business Insider tells the story Elko Roos, the IBM top manager, who left the post to take a photograph, the fact that he had long enjoyed. And we decided to once again remind you that each of us has the right and opportunity to do what he likes.
Elko Roos has worked at IBM for over a decade. According to him, he never dreamed of working in the IT-company. He was attracted by photography as a way to express emotions.
Account InstagramRoos started the chance, take some photos while waiting for the train. He saw that smartphones can do a very good photo and decided to share photos with other people.
Over time, account Roos started signing more and more people, and when a top manager realized that it is possible to make money and he liked it, he decided to leave IBM.
Roos is now engaged only in a photograph and makes his campaigns, who bought his brands. Among the customers were Samsung, Ducati and Johnnie Walker.
Elko RoosI have never regretted that quit his job at IBM.
What is your excuse for not doing what like? It is unlikely that you can recklessly quit work and start trying to make money with his musical group, but you definitely have the opportunity to combine at least two cases.
Care Roos from IBM was informed decisions. According to him, he left only when the number of subscribers to his Instagram exceeded 100 thousand, and he realized that he could make money. Who has signed more than 400 thousand people.
Do what you like, it is difficult. You have to change the very concept of life. I think that when you were still a child, you have seen how life adults: they devote some time making money, and the rest of the time - what they like. Of course, there are exceptions. And you have the right to be one of them.
Someone thinks that the meaning of the work is to exchange your time opportunity not to starve to death. There were times when it was. Now, almost anyone can send a similar concept to hell.
American entrepreneur Paul Graham considersThat there are two ways of doing things you love:
- Organic path: develop at work, getting more and more pleasant and less unpleasant tasks.
- The way the two work: work hard, do not like to earn money and be able to work on what is pleasant.
Organic route is more common. For example, you are a novice web designer. You are raving steep sites, complex projects and want to work in a team of professionals who will train and will make you better.
But in order to fulfill your dreams, you have to work on boring projects. Well, if they are related to the specialty. You may be lucky even less, and you will rivet brochures and business cards, to make money. In spite of this, you are still in a good situation, because it is even worse.
It so happens that, following a dream, you have to earn money during the day and at night to work on that much. You may feel that you do not live and exist. Often have to make difficult choices between what is love and what you hate. Choice is complicated by the fact that, if you're too early to come away with the hated work, you risk being left without money, too late - risk being left without your favorite things.
If you have commitments (family, loans, lifestyle), then, obviously, you need to choose the second path. You can take a risk and choose the first option, but if you have not done this so far, it is unlikely to do so now.
Each path is complex in its own way. There is a chance that you will fail. In truth, the risk is quite large. But it is better to take a chance and to draw a route to the destination at least in my mind, than a lifetime spent on the unloved work.
