Journalist John Gruber, a well-known apologist for Apple, He expressed personal blog its own (and very interesting!) point of view on the problem of «Apple stole the design at Braun and suing all of geometric shapes of products." The charges stemmed from a sensational picture:
Here he writes Gruber:
"This series of comparisons between the modern Apple devices and old products Braun again raises the trite idea that Apple hypocritically condemns attempts to "seize the last pants" from Samsung for stealing his design, when it is clear that Apple itself still stole Braun.
There is a subjective line between tribute (inspiration) and theft. The old joke says that "Tribute - this is when you copy someone, and theft - when someone copies you." But for me personally, the difference lies in whether or not created something new happens or slavish copying to a derivative product. This determines the notorious difference between a great artist, who steals and a bad artist who copies. Apple products are a different category of devices than the corresponding Braun devices, and more than that - they are separated by decades. Inspired by these products but there is no denying: Johnny Ive himself readily acknowledges this influence. In his review of the iPhone 4, I wrote:
The general assembly of quality looks improbable. iPhone 4 looks great and looks like a valuable artifact. It looks like a love letter to Dieter Rams (German industrial designer, a leading designer Braun company from 1962 to 1995 - ca. Perevi.).
And the Rams looks flattered Apple works. His quote in The Telegraph in 2011:
I have always regarded Apple products - and nice words that Johnny Ive voiced about me and my work - as a compliment. Without a doubt, there are only a few companies in the world, which ingeniously understand and use the power of good design in their products and business.
Rams or remark about Apple in the famous documentary Objectified:
I highly doubt that Apple has at least one designer who would be flattered Samsung products. On the other hand, I doubt that even one designer at Samsung sees his work as a tribute to Apple respect. "
