Manifesto freelancer, or What is the difference between you and the "big boss"?
Work And Study / / December 25, 2019
Designer Paul Jervis wrote an excellent (though a bit harsh) note in his blog, which is supplied subtitle "Manifesto for those who work for themselves." If you decide to embark on a freelancer, I advise you to read it (and read another post that will help you understand, whether you should be a freelancer or work on someone self-employed).
Start with the fact that You - one of those unique assholes (yes, from the point of view of the "big bosses"), who have decided that life in the office "cage homes" jobs and plan a march through the ranks - not for them. Do you have the courage and audacity to embark on a freestyle swimming - so let's see what you should do, and that - no.
You are different from people whose corporate loyalty pulled into a tie and size of the compensation package. You can determine your success without having to be tied to that of the quarterly report to shareholders and the profit shown publicly. You do not need to sacrifice for the salvation of pandas or lamas in distant lands, where your only company is planning to open a branch. And certainly you have no reason to flaunt in social networks that 2 times a week you can work outside the office.
You - as opposed to the "big bosses" - you can make mistakes, To offer an apology for them and to learn from these mistakes if you want (not just fear for his position and write LPP).
You have every right to take care not only about customers, partners, or the timing of projects - but also about themselves. So you can go for a walk in the middle of the working day, do yoga, or come up with a hobby, it takes several hours every day (if you do not know how this can be done not only out of office life, but also at work in the company - I recommend read "in the style of Office funk").
You - as opposed to top-managers on the payroll - full right to create their own code of ethics and a set of values in theThat will allow you to not work with uninteresting or unpleasant people you (remember how often the manager "dynamic growing company "puts up the phone and sends a loud source, that has just been poured out in courtesies).
You can do everything for their customers, and thus "beat their breasts" to people not necessarily. You can act on a pre-thought-out plan, and can never have any "quarterly targets," from the way the freelancer. You do not have to tighten the tie in the heat and put on the "dark bottom - light top - black shoes" at any time of the year. You generally allowed to violate all conceivable rules that fighters for the office culture marshaled almost 50 years since the Second World War.
You do not contraindicated individuality: As long as the corporation faceless rivet press releases that are planning to finally win this quarter planet sales of new TVs or computers "fundamentally new tiled OS, "You are allowed to be themselves and just do your job the way you see fit.
You have the right to refuse the money and not be seduced by check with lots of zeros after the unitIf in your opinion to accept such check or enter into such a contract - it is "against the rules" that you yourself have set.
Reporting and planning, reporting and goals you provide and put themselves and not the Board of Directors or some "big boss" at the top.
You can get on and do our best in that in which you thoroughly understand, and in fact what until yesterday had no idea. And while all aspects of your skills, you can frankly tell your potential customers before you sign their contract. You do not bind the faceless "corporate ethics."
You can close a business, start a parallel to another, or even take a completely new activity. Corporations spend on similar processes of the years, and even decades - you have the opportunity to do so in the weeks and days.
You can not delve into the legal and financial aspectsBy hiring a lawyer and accountant. And you only have one specialist to pass on to him some of their problems, rather than the whole department staff.
You can treat carefully and to the one who hires you and to whom you are hiring. You do a lot more opportunities for selective and careful selection, than the "big boss," which is simply because of the nature of the corporation may not go into such details.
Remember that you are - a businessman, not a corporation. You will never have the need to work as work "big bosses" in the strict and expensive ties (by the way, and expensive tie - "to radiate confidence" - you will not need to work place).
