How to combine work and learning
Work And Study / / December 25, 2019
All we want to successfully learn something new. The more we know, the deeper we can penetrate the essence of things and see new possibilities for themselves and the company. The more we have the opportunities to learn, the better we end up working. However, most of these companies-employers prevent us from doing it.
As we used to learn
As a rule, in the school years, we get the hang of intensive studies, that allows us to grasp the school program, and then university or other educational institution.
Then we start to work. Since further the skills we have mainly in the course of work, and not from books, we have to learn as we go. However, this method does not give the desired results. This is partly because we are starting to put at the forefront the social values, shifts the own training into the background and eventually come to a standstill.
Of course, we understand that self-education is necessary for success and personal growth. But we can not afford to spend more time on training.
We have presses that we "should" do: make money, to spend time with family, relax, after all.
Day modern man is divided into mutually exclusive segments: work, leisure and sleep. First we deal with in the workplace, the other two - out of it. We can not arbitrarily change their positions during the day.
We are trained to equate the work to doing things. Therefore, the case become the primary value for us. We pay for them. And, it seems, only for them.
Study - it's not just work on the material, but also the rest
If we learn something, you need to work, then your brain equates such a study and work. So, it is necessary to deal with the day in the workplace. And if we do not sit in place and do not learn, we are coming out, relax.
For example, we believe that the trip does not apply to training, it is rest. We instinctively feel that the reading refers to the study. However, discussion of reading is often not perceived as work, as well as recreation. And it relies on the work, not rest.
When we try to learn something new, the brain processes information in two modes: concentrated and dispersed.
For successful learning both modes are equally important and necessary.
Usually we associate with training focused only mode. Still, at this time we are not distracted by anything, read, delve, to memorize. But, apart from the phase focus, we need time to process the information and integration into an existing system of knowledge. To do this, the brain goes into dispersal mode.
If learning to rely on the focus mode and can not afford to switch, it will lead to fast burnout.
dispersal mode causes us guilt
To put the brain in a dispersal mode, usually offer workout, walk, draw, take a bath, listen to music, meditate or sleep. But all these classes do not fit into the schedule: it is assumed that walk, exercise, and wallow in the bath you after work and sleep at night. That is, all of these things you do in your off time, because you do not pay for them.
We adopt this way of thinking and begin to associate the value of a payment to the value of the duties of the task list.
If there is something that is not in the list, and for that we do not pay, we believe it is not valuable. And if it is not valuable, it is necessary to engage in off-hours or not do at all.
When we are at work doing relaxing things on which apparently do not see the benefits for learning, we feel guilty. We think that we are in such moments do not do so, for what we paid.
Get rid of this feeling
Be kind to yourself. To deal with the guilt that prevents learn and reach new heights, you need to treat yourself as the dearest person in the world.
The next time when you come off second on proposals to improve the infrastructure of the company and notice that the sun came out, go outside. Look around at the sides, a little walk. Let the brain go into a dispersed mode and handle everything on what you've just been focused. And then praise yourself for it.
