Niklas Kok, the author Medium.com and Lifehacker.com.
These recommendations assume that you are running in Chrome. However, Firefox, Opera and Safari extensions, actions, and about the same hotkeys.
1. Think before you click on links
Yes, this is the most obvious advice that only you can give. But to follow it, you need to have self-discipline. Mindlessly clicking on the links, you spend a lot of time.
So, before you click on something, look where it might lead you. To do this, move on link Mouse and look at the lower left corner of the screen.
When you are looking for information in scientific journals, it is not necessary to click on the links on blogs. When you are busy with work, you do not need to open a social networking page. When you are reading the right article, do not go to the comments. If you find something interesting, but you do not have time to read it, just save the link.
2. Use hot keys browser
A huge number of people in work with the browser and other apps often do not use the keyboard at all. However, the keys allow you to save a lot of time. You do not have to take your hands to drive the cursor on the screen and look for the right buttons and menu items. Just remember a few combinations, and you will be surprised how much time they save.
- Ctrl + N - opens a new window.
- Ctrl + Shift + N - opens a new window in a mode incognita in Chrome, «Yandex. Browser », Opera and Safari. In Firefox, Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge used Ctrl + Shift + P.
- Ctrl + T - opens a new tab. The cursor is placed right in the Chrome search bar, so you do not need to click the mouse on the line. You can immediately start searching on Google.
- Ctrl + Shift + T - opens the last closed tab. It is useful when you accidentally close the right.
- Ctrl + W - closes the current tab. If any, only one, closes the entire window in the window.
- Ctrl + [number] - navigates to the Chrome tab corresponding to the number. Using the number 9, you will go to the last tab in the window. In Firefox, use a combination of Ctrl + Alt + [number] in Safari - Cmd + [number].
- Ctrl + L - places the cursor in the search box.
- Ctrl + F - opens a search box on the page.
For macOS keyboard shortcuts are the same, only instead of Ctrl pressed Cmd. Learn more about keyboard shortcuts for Chrome and Safari in our articles.
3. Minimize the number of tabs
How many tabs open in your browser? If they are more than ten, then to understand in all this mess is not very convenient. There are a couple of ways to help you not to obscure the relevant panel.
You can mount tabs that use regularly. For example, Gmail or music player. Click the tab, right-click and select "Pin tab". So you kill two birds with one stone. First, the desired tab will not be accidentally closed. Secondly, enshrined take up less space on the panel.
But from the tabs with which you are not working at the moment, it is better to get rid of. The more of them on the panel, the more compressed description, and as a result will be more difficult to read what you have discovered.
If you have a bunch of naotkryvali tabs and want to deal with them later, try extension OneTab. It allows one click to close all tabs, keeping only the references to them.

4. Displace the browser window, which do not use
Niklas Kok recommends another way to keep their multiple tabs in order - to divide them into different windows in accordance with the content. Entertainment, video and seals - in one window, the work - in other correspondence - in the third.
When you do not need any set of tabs - just roll up the window. If you have a lot of extra windows, click on the active lower right corner on the Windows 10, to roll them all, and then open only the window that you want right now. MacOS users with the same purpose can click Option + Cmd + H - this combination will roll all the windows except the active one. Or you can hang a function hide all windows on the active macOS angle.
5. Use images in the bookmarks bar
There is the same situation as with the tabs. The set of tabs on the panel clutter it, and understand it becomes uncomfortable in them. So you can save space on the panel, simply by removing the names of sites and leaving alone icons. After all, in fact, they would be sufficient.
As a result, the bookmarks bar will look like this:
6. Use mode "Incognito" instead of disabling AdBlock
Advertising sites is annoying and distracting, so you are probably using AdBlock. Many sites do not like this program and asked to turn it off. Here again you need shortcuts.
- Ctrl + L - identify the contents of the address bar.
- Ctrl + C - copy the URL.
- Ctrl + Shift + N - open the window in the "Incognito" in Chrome, «Yandex. Browser », Opera and Safari, Ctrl + Shift + P - for Edge and Firefox.
- Ctrl + V - paste the URL into the address bar.
- Enter - go to the site.
You will, of course, it seems that it is long. But if you are accustomed to using hotkeys, it will take less than five seconds. Especially during set combinations can not take your finger off Ctrl.
However, this method is good for one visit a resource that asks disable AdBlock. If you are constantly browsing this site, it is better to simply add it as an exception.

7. Use Google, and not the built-search site
Almost all the sites have a built-in search. And often it is, so to speak, is not particularly good. Therefore it is better to use Google.
Enter in the search box «Site: adres_sayta search query". Thus, as a rule, they are much more accurate than using the built-in search.
8. Use the search by the page
This is an incredibly effective way to to save time. Rather than flip through the entire article for key information, use the built-in search browser. press Ctrl + F and enter the line appears the desired word or phrase. Then click on Enter. With each push of the browser will move you to those found in the text of coincidences. Sometimes it makes sense to type only the first few letters of the desired word, otherwise you may miss the right word with a different ending.
This applies not only browsers. Full text search can be performed virtually anywhere: in a text editor and viewer Ebook Reader PDF. Use the search constantly, and spend a lot less time to read large amounts of text.
