Helen Brown for iOS - not boring way to learn English
Ios / / December 23, 2019
The new app, offering instead a tedious cramming to learn English words and phrases, viewing music videos, snippets of favorite movies and reading books.
Vocabulary is offered to fill up in the library, which is divided into four sections: "Video", "text", "Notebooks" and the "Book." Content in each of them easily sorted with the help of various filters, including complexity, novelty, popularity and tags. There is also a search, which is useful for occasions when you want to find something specific.
"Video" is the most interesting. In it collected various videos in English, ranging from music videos of famous singers and ending with fragments of popular films and TV series.
Each video has a text dialog to be viewed while listening to its pronunciation in the original language. You can immediately find out the meaning of unfamiliar words and add them to the dictionary to learn.
The texts of all about the same: read short articles and interesting notes, view and meanings of new words added to the dictionary. Notebook mode - it's all the same, only the texts you can add your own.
Special attention should explore mode "Books". Helen Brown will let you download the app in any ePub-book (from Safari or Mail), to read it on the go and learn unfamiliar words, adding them for further study. EReader is quite simple, but more is needed: there is a table of contents, bookmarks, dictionary and adjusts the font size. For me this was the most popular mode.
After watching the video and reading the texts you find new words for you, which is stored in the dictionary. There they can view and add manually using this section instead of the usual translation at any time when you need to learn an unfamiliar word.
For consolidation of new words and phrases responds section "Training", which contains five types of exercises. "Word - translation" and "translation - the word" serve to memorize new words, "Design of words" - for training spelling, "Card" - for repetition and self-examination, and "Listening" - for training on perception hearing. Work is very simple to them: you have to choose one of the transfer options form words from letters entangled or listened to enter words manually with the keyboard.
Learning English will go more fun, if invited to Helen Brown your friends and compete with them in the achievements. This is done in the last section of the program - "Profile". There is also going to all the statistics of your success. Shows the percentage of the daily plan, schedule progress, the story passed exercises and also ranking among friends, the number of subscribers, notifications and private messages from other users.
I liked the app, despite the rather marked resemblance to Lingualeo. It has a modern design and works equally well on iPhone, and on iPad. At the moment, Helen Brown is completely free of charge and at least deserves attention.
