Write this little stuff I pushed some factor, like a fatal combination of circumstances referred finger of fate. Deliberately or not, but in the last 7 days, I've more than 10 times to talk about the possible use of the iPad for traveling amateur photographer, blogger and journalist.
After collecting a number of frequently asked questions, I decided to make some of them plan to write material, and on this plan we can easily walk and walk.
The first question: Transportation photo on the iPad without any loss of quality
This item is for the most part consists of two closely related questions: Is it possible to transfer the footage from the camera to the iPad and how to add a photo to my poppy bypassing iTunes.
The first part is simple: you need to buy Camera Connection Kit and you can use it to your IPad connect the camera via USB or SD-card memory card. I specifically bring a focus on the type of card, as professional cameras are more likely to CompactFlash. Here that's the case, we may come in handy USB adapter for direct connection to a camera. And just say, again commemorated professional pictures we can also with RAW-file to work on the iPad, but it will be lower.
When you connect a memory card or the camera, in the standard Photos app, there is another tab: camera, then we can see all the thumbnails footage and can do something to remove immediately and the necessary (or is full) to export to the IPad, followed by purification with or without card thereof.
The imported images are not added to photoblog (or as it is called on the iPad "still pictures") and two new galleries will be created: "Last Import" and "All imported." Sorting Gallery is not the file name (the file name is not important for the iPad) and date from EXIF image. If for some reason the camera does not record the data, the date of the last modification will be adopted setting a picture, for example the same dubbing.
Everything. With the camera added quickly and easily. And this picture is transported in its original form, without compression and other modifications.
Someone may ask: why do you transfer pictures from the working chamber on the iPad? After you complete the work with the images here will not work.
Several answers, as well as objectives:
- If we are talking about a journalist or blogger, the issue does not occur in nature. The person on the trip filmed something urgent, he threw to the plate, something done with minimal image and posted it on the Bay photo hosting or sending by e-mail to the editor. The tremendous time savings. Sometimes decisive.
- Professional photographer, resets the just-captured not in the studio, that would view with the customer or model to an acceptable screen, and can discuss something then reshoot. In this case, it is essential that the material is not modified during export.
- Amateur photographer can transfer captured with the camera on iPad the purpose simply disassembled into a convenient atmosphere. Not sitting at the computer screen, and comfortable lounging in a chair, or in a cafe, or may in the loose minute somewhere along the road. This is important if you want otsmotret, dismantle hundreds of pictures brought back after a rough trip across countries and continents. Again we need, what would the picture remained unchanged during the transport on the iPad
So Focusing on the pristine image transfer, I gradually turn to the second part of the question: the transfer without modification and loss with Mac OS.
Syncing via iTunes does not suit us, because of the old and good tradition during the transport device on a picture optimized for the device, for save space and better performance, with larger sizes up to 1536 by height (if the picture is less then it does not increase, but remains changes). Thus, the fans keep the originals or just full-size photos must remember when pictures are added to the device.
We also need a primordial size, without modification and optimization. And here we are 2 ways (maybe more, but I use these two):
- Preview add pictures from your computer to the SD card. Here note: only to the folder which is created by the camera (something like DCIM -> CANONMSC) Photos outside these folders or folders in the name of another, will be ignored by the program iPad imports.
Thus, we move the pristine versions of images without going through iTunes and its optimization. Transferred, falls in the same folder "Last imported" as described above. - Install one of the synchronization software for Wi-Fi. I recommend a good and not expensive pair - PhotoSync ($ 2 for iPad free Mac OS X)
Configure the connection, you can throw without any changes needed to easily pictures over Wi-Fi with both the Mac OS on the iPad, and in the reverse order. Even more than that, after purchasing an iPhone app can be transported more pictures in this way. Truth never know what crazy, but it is possible.
Two words about PhotoSync: The program is simple, the main task of which is a photo sync via Wi-Fi between devices. Plus, as an auxiliary, downloading pictures to a photo sharing site flickr.
The main task is done perfectly. The client program, "the big brother", is so austere that it does not even interface. All you can - it menyubare choose settings and define the place of delivery of the file: The selected folder, Aperture or iPhoto. You can also configure the program run at startup (obviously extra feature) and the availability of the application icon in the Dock or menyubare. To send images from the PC to the device, you can simply "throw" them to the application icon, well, or if you want to fuss, choose Filies menu -> Send Photos / Videos
Mobile application a little more complicated: you can select a device: Mac, iPhone or other iPod (yes, that's right, you can flip the images to each other via Wi-Fi, in the presence of this program both). And even more than that. If you do not have available Wi-Fi but it is very necessary to bring the picture to another device, you can establish a connection via the Internet (3G, for example) by typing in the browser of the recipient device Technical address (see. clicking digging Receive Photos / Videos)
Upload to flickr is only possible from a mobile application. And it is very simplified. To verify the way to send to your account, you can simply upload a picture, without choosing the collection or folder, without recording names, tags, and so forth. Those. Easy sending. If there is a huge selection of apps for Flickr necessity of this function is questionable.
I think on it, the first part can be left alone. Let's go ahead.
Question Two: Easy editing of images on the iPad
It is not strange, the question I have been asked a lot more frequently, although the decision seems more obvious and easier to find the necessary program, than to deal with the above problem, including all the pitfalls.
The first thing worth mentioning Adobe Photoshop Express. The most famous of the sound, and most simple in functionality. Describe it, I will not, as of today, probably just lazy did not write a review about this free application miracle.
Let me remind you just in a nutshell, that the branded programm is able to turn (rotate), expand (flip) a picture, crop (crop) a pattern or randomly, to align the horizon line (staighten). "Curl" exposure, saturation, contrast, and color balance (not sliders, and on the screen with a finger). Translate in b / w, psevdorisunok, apply simple lomo-filters and add a frame. It is also possible to add / subtract field, and for dop.platu some purification of noise (downloading automatical addition). Not a lot, but for free (almost). To send a picture in a blog is enough. Speaking of sending. Exhausted in the mobile "photoshop" picture, you can immediately send to facebook or upload to online hostng adobe. Unfortunately the new versions disappeared "rassharka" in tweeter (twitpic).
Very good alternative can be considered Photogene, Valued at $ 3 it offers a substantially greater range of options, of course within the amateur editing.
Absorbing any size photographs (remember the originals are not optimized) Photogene offers three sets of instruments, located in the lower, upper and side menu.
Let's start in a row. we will find in the lower menu:
- Crop-traditional cropping pattern, or to your taste;
- Rotate: rotation, revolution-reflected in the horizontal and vertical alignment of the horizon line;
- Adjustments to the rich, for programs of this type and a price range of light and color- correction: Adjust exposure, saturation, contrast, tone shadow (!!!) of dark and light, RGB-balance level histogram and full Curves. There is a little noise filtering and Sharpening.
- A little retouching (Retouches), but modestly enough. Correction of "red eyes" (someone still torturing people flash?) Removing troubled place cloning sites, and a bit of blur for portraits. Double tapom select the desired area and activate retouching tool.
- That absolutely was like onlaynovsky editor from the "photoshop" or "picnic" in the lower menu has a lovely set of text presets with frame-clouds. You can make signatures on photographs, or images. Amiss for some explanation to the screenshots, images of abuse or creating their comics;
- Final Enhance the lower menu button activates the sidebar;
What good side we Nagy?
- Filters Vignette (Shadow vignettes), Blur (in this case again, vignettes, but blur), Gray (again vignette but obeschechivayuschaya). Set a few goofy, but very novice amateur photographer, member of the same service Picnic, is quite suitable. It should be noted that using the Manual button, you can move the center of the diameter of the desired location picture. Thus obscure or blur can be any part of, not necessarily from the edges toward the center of the image.
- Then, in the sidebar, we will find a set of photo frames pop of 7 pieces, with the ability to significantly expand their surcharges. money (again smells "picnic"); Erase frames light (Glow) and create the illusion of space with reflection and background color (Outline)
If any step of bullying over the images to show you a failure, you can always cancel Undo or Redo to bring back the top menu. And appreciating that after all the manipulations of the picture permanently disfigured, and not as we would like, you can restore the Status Quo by clicking the Original If you still not satisfied, there, in the top menu bar, there is a collection of presets divided into collections: Colors, B & W, Vintage, Fun and a collection of presets created you. Having played I found some very good.
Well, the final touch of the upper button metodannyh menu (see basic data plus EXIF DATA, can be filled IPTC) and of exhaling: Key Export result.
Here are the latest key details. Only for the sake of it one can use Photogene. Here the required size of the picture, you can set the output (that is, if we treated a great shot, and just want to publish it on your blog, then why us 4000 × 3000 or more?), save or delete metadata configured to send to Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Dropbox, to FTP or email. Printed, saved in memory (clipboard) or your photo library iPad.
Bravo! Fine! Even on the "big brother" did not all the editors for 3 (there for 10-15 bucks) have a set of tools.
It should also be borne in mind that Photogene swallowing not only big but also full JPG RAW-files. True Do not know how it can be necessary for people to shoot in the PO, but it is always nice when the opportunity is there.
And since I mentioned RAW, it is not going far, just a couple of lines to answer questions as those that fit in this paragraph:
Yes, iPad can work with RAW. They can even view the standard manager "Photo". But here's the "fill" in the device is only possible through the export of the camera by means of Camera Connection Kit. All other attempts are doomed to JPG-file in the end, and iTunes Sync (well, it is immediately obvious), and Wi-Fi-transportation. All that does not send in the export folder will make you a JPG. And not the fact that as it is necessary.
But to deal with RAW, you will help PhotoRaw for as much as $ 10. What do we get for such a "mad money"? Full RAW-converter works with Nikon NEF files, Canon CR2 files, Leica DNG files, and many others. The second version, we are talking about, you can work with images up to 72 MPixels. And the developers show off, can be viewed separately, each pixel "raw file" without the need to have on hand a desktop computer. Viewing, cutting and adjusting output settings "under him", can be exported to JPEG.
I do not know how it's convenient, but repeatedly asked me: is there and what you can eat. Here it is. And to be honest. almost no alternative. Besides the mentioned PhotoRaw, you can try CapturePilotBut it only works in conjunction with his brother, Capture One Pro 6 or DB 6 from Phase One.
And by the way, that would try, there is a free Litle-version PhotoRaw.
I think this question can also be considered illuminated. No, of course I can still talk about iPicEd and some others, "piknikoobranyh" photo editor so that Adobe was ashamed for his product. But I'm afraid if the material does swell, and you simply do not read up dying from exhaustion. If there is interest, I think about these programs can be discussed separately. And by the way, may arrive in time a new version of Photoshop Express, where we were promised as much as working with layers and something else is not a shame. In the meantime, go ahead.
Question three: Transportation of photos without loss of quality back to the iPad in the "big brother"
This is perhaps the easiest and the shortest passage.
- Of course, it is again true and good PhotoSync. Run the application on the Mac and iPad, from the menu select the folder to export, note the photos, click Sync Selected (or Sync All if you want to copy all images from the album) and get on the "big brother" to the specified folder. Everything.
- Another, even simpler option: use the built-in utility Makowski "Image Capture". When your iPad is connected via USB to the Mac, just run "Image Capture" from the program folder, and it is defined as an iPad with camera images. Or you can configure the program to import (Aperture, iPhoto, e.t.c.) or any convenient location. And you can just select all, drag the mouse images in the folder. At the same time, if it establishes a check after a successful import, the transferred images to the iPad will be removed.
That's all. Nothing more to say. Rather, you can even talk about transferring via Picasa, Adobe Lightroom, Aperture, or the same without intermediaries such as "Capture izobrazhny," but it's all too much more troublesome. And most importantly: do not all right. Practice suggests that the majority of users prefer simple (making their manipulation of the iPad) to transfer pictures to a certain folder. And most importantly - what would without distortion, various modifications and optimizations in the export time.
Question Four: "I have it all gallery - Saved images. I was a little uncomfortable. I want to put all the folders. What to do? "
Again a few options, and they are all ambiguous.
The first option: Here we have to use iTunes, with all the features of synchronization. Let's face it, not all users have the need to store full-size images with multi-pixel camera, and suits perfectly adapted size (by the way, he is not too small to print pictures 10x15 is sufficient).
So, we will create somewhere (say in the default directory "Images" new folder with a certain name, let iPod-photo, inside of which will create a folder on the topics on which we want to spread the pictures. After you sync your iPod to your iTunes settings tab, select photos, and set the path to the folder. Later, at the first sync the folder will appear on your iPad, if they contain at least 1 shot. It is important to know that iTunes does not understand subfolders. Those. pointless to do, say, a folder "Moscow" within which to make subfolders by year. When sending to the device, all subfolders merge into one (in the illustrated example, "Moscow"). You also need to know that when the synchronization is lost all your original file name that you gave the shot (iOS gives them their name). Those. if you are planning some sort of pictures, and given the lack of subfolders option with the names of files of you will not help. Once again: all sort of images comes from the old to the new images for EXIF, and if thereof, not (for example after treatment with some editors, or scanned copies of the paper is the image), the date of the last change. If you plan to store some collection (family, reports from trips, etc.) Then you need to check the EXIF data - as far as they are true, and if necessary adjustment or filling vospolzovatsya beforehand on Mac OS software type CocoViewX (Free) or ACDSee Pro. Thus creating the desired album, and preparing photos we get some sort of orderly collection. And yet, in iOS albums are usually sorted in alphabetical order. It must be remembered giving the names of the folders collection.
Well, with these understood. And what if we are on the road or for some reason we do not want or can not use sortirku through the "big brother"? Well, in the end, just need to expand what is already "leaked from the camera" directly, or (who already appeared images on iPad2)? As in this case, "to scatter in different folders?" And here we come to the fun part.
The second option: To paraphrase the leader of the Bolshevik revolution, I say "There is a the consignment Program "and its name Photo-Sort for iPad ($ 1.99) - or fotomenedzher fotoorganayzer.
With Photo-Sort can fully organize the photos on your iPad without the "big brother": to create the necessary folders and even subfolders, transfer photos and videos from photos library device (when importing images automatically numbered with the name of the current directory). Also available import pictures from your computer or other device on the Wi-Fi (already familiar to us through the load circuit
browser). Added images can flip the folder in a folder by cut / copy and paste. You can also send an e-mail, save to clipboard, or upload to Facebook. Available editorial and simple manipulation, such as rotation by 180 and 90g. clockwise and counter-clockwise turn horizontally and vertically. If necessary, you can download the picture back to "Saved add pictures" (and only in the export and the collection - it is impossible) or delete it. View the images can be as simple as flipping, as well as a slide show. And for people prone to a certain paranoia, it is possible to put the contents of a four-digit password.
Full support for files: TIFF, TIF, JPG, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, BMPf, ICO, CUR, XBM, MOV, MP4, MPV, 3gp. Note: RAW-files are not supported It is a worthy program is fully justifies its $ 2 (!). Among the few drawbacks: sometimes observed snubs to "big and heavy" pictures, rare "crashes" of the program, and not as a beautiful interface as compared to "native but inept." You can of course also talk about programs like this, but I'm afraid if our "small stuff" turned to the little book. If you have enough of these two methods, or want to learn more about the type of Photo-Sort programs, it can be a separate review.
I think today we finish this brief digression for novice photographers with the iPad in their hands. I left there are still about the same cluster issues, and I think we will continue the theme begun in following articles are also assembled into a single, introductory material, or may be divided into separate articles on the topic. Write as if you were more comfortable.
And if you still have any questions about today's topics, and can at the positions that we have not yet touched on - write. I'll consider this in a future article.
Yours sincerely, Andrew Barhatov.
P.S. Incidentally, this material has been fully (text) written on the iPad using mobile office applications. If you will be interested and this theme, we can also run through a number of interesting packages (including free).
