As you know, one of the characteristic features of the iPhone 4 - is the ability to video calls over Wi-Fi - FaceTime. However, at the moment it is not available to all users the latest phone model, therefore, not everyone can use this feature.
However, having got support iOS 4, Fring program will be able to some extent replace the FaceTime. Moreover, with its help, the user is able to call not only to iPhone owners, but also devices on the Android and Symbian-based, PC users (via Skype ilm Gtalk). At the same time it works as a Fring via Wi-Fi, or via the 3G network, reports MacWorld.
But in reality, things were not so rosy as in theory. Reviewer Apple Insider Fring spent testing in the field, and that's what conclusions came.
The first problem is the low quality of the video itself and connection during a call with Fring, even if it is implemented through a Wi-Fi (as the video compression format leaves much to be desired). In addition, the program does not use during a call camera on the back, unlike FaceTime, and switch between the two cameras is simply impossible.
The same applies to calls to the computer - the transmission quality of the video is not very high, again, even if a communication via Wi-Fi (on 3G it is not even). You may also experience problems connecting to Skype through your mobile device.
Obviously, in order to ensure adequate experience of using Fring, application developers will have a lot more work on it. On the other hand, if users are willing to put up with the low quality of communication and the video, then they may well be content with Fring.
However, at the last moment the scandal broke. Fring developers say that Skype has blocked the possibility to make video calls to users of the network. Skype, in turn, rejects these accusations, though stresses that Fring use API violations.
