Until recently, Nokia was not paying attention to their competitors, or, more likely, simply does not consider it necessary to be afraid of them. And no wonder - because until now the global smartphone market is split in favor of the Finns (45% of the market), despite the fact that Apple already owns 13.3% (compared to 5.2% last year). Apple with its iPhone - is not the only competitor to Nokia, there are also devices such as the BlackBerry Curve and Palm Pre. In general, as a manufacturer of mobile phones, the Nokia retains 38% of the market. And its position was more or less stable, while the competing firms have come and gone. However, with the advent of iPhone, much has changed: Apple phone turned out to be really innovative, and cases where its customers were disappointed rare.
And not being able to provide an interesting alternative to the iPhone, Nokia endured the struggle in the legal field: the company recently filed a lawsuit against Apple, accusing the team of Steve Jobs (Steve Jobs) in violation of patents technologies, including security, voice coding, cryptographic protection and technology of wireless transmission data. Nokia Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, CEO of (Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo) believes that Nokia is entitled to a share of the sales of 34 million iPhones, issued since 2007. We can talk about one billion dollars, if the court will side Finns.
However, patent licensing - Nokia is not the only problem. British Times writes that the company is worth more to worry because of the competition. Smartphones, following Moore's Law will still be cheaper and more productive, and attempts to catch up with Apple Nokia smartphones in terms release, have not been successful - the N97 did not impress consumers.
What can save Nokia? Companies need to run one of the "breakthrough" device that would become the hallmark of the company (like the iPhone from Apple). But at the moment Nokia has no such. After all, no unpretentious smart phones 5800 and 5230, nor the music service Comes With Music has not captured the imagination of consumers. To compete with Apple and all innovations created by this firm, was not easy.
