Why is the creator of "Dilbert" believes that the super cel - the path to failure

Any good strategy in theory is a stupid practice. Scott Adams, "Management of Dilbert"
The world-famous cartoonist Scott Adams (Scott Adams), in addition to what draws comics, and wrote a book, an avid entrepreneur. He has much (about 30) business undertakings, the victims collapse.
Then you will know why Adams believes that the passion for super cel - is the installation to fail, and why the "system approach" - the only way to achieve success.
Scott Adams
American cartoonist. He became famous thanks to his comics about office engineer Dilbert, published in 65 countries in 25 languages. In the past and himself - an office worker. The author of such books as "Dilbert Principle," "Dilbert Principle in Action", "The Future of Dilbert" and others.
We can not say that Adams does not care about your business. But he clearly understands that (approximately) 9 out of 10 of his ideas are doomed to failure.
When everything works, I passionately given case. If not, then not.
Thus, the failure does not stop its movement. So, it did not stop the two unsuccessful attempts to start a restaurant business, Feil food production companies, as well as pictures, not to please the public.
When you realize the difference between what happens and what is hoped to get, you tend to feel stress or frustration. If your expectations are deceived, you will be afflicted and tense.
I deliberately underestimate expectations. I think that I have much less chance of success than I expect. I also do not expect that my work will bring me long-term success.
Do not invest money in the person who is passionate about
Adams picked up the idea during his banking career. His former chief forbade him to invest in start-ups, whose leaders are passionate about their work. Why? Because "passion obscures reason, people make mistakes because they are driven by passion" - said the boss. Instead, he recommended Adams to invest in people who have had experience and they worked hard.
What I hear is the fact that one can not pick a winner in the framework of a business idea. At the very least, investors heard advertising startup it can not say: "This is probably going to work, we fully anticipate that."
In other words, before blindly believe that it is possible to choose a winning business idea, and now just blindly I believe that it is possible to find a super-team or people who are brilliant, full of energy and are doomed to success.
This led Adams to believe that passion - it's bad. "When you earn your first billion, you'll probably be very excited, because it will change your life. You did it! And it will make you act quite passionately "- he writes.
Many people think that passion leads to success. But the opposite is true: success breeds passion.
What about those who are already passionately interested in something?
Adams responds to this with words that once sounded in his address: "Cartoonist? How about to become a lawyer? ". It should have a "backup" plan, and preferably two.
Super cel depress you
According to Adams, the biggest problem is super cel is that they make you feel like a failure.
Let's say you want to lose 5 kg, and every day weigh yourself, well, how is it? I am sure you will feel like a failure, even if progress is really there. The fact that you are always going to be in an emotionally painful stage of "semi-success" (or semi-failure). But you do not feel that we have achieved success.
So do not put super cel. First of all, you never know if you aim correctly determine for themselves (maybe there is a better way?). Second, the big goal as "blinders", it is always a priority, you do not notice what is happening around. And all around, in the adjacent areas, can be very interesting possibilities.
The world today - is totally unpredictable. You can not predict how it will develop your career in a year. You can not predict what technology will be and how it will change the world. Perhaps your workplace takes a robot. So that the production of global objectives in our world has its drawbacks.
This does not mean that Adams is campaigning to completely abandon the goal-setting. He believes that the objectives need to put in some simple cases, the short-term. For example, you can set a target to shoot at the "apple" to compete in archery or treat 16 acres of land, if you are a farmer.
But never articulate the goal this way: "I want to take the place of his boss in five years." You can miss a lot of chances for successful development of his career, focusing on it.
Systematic approach - is key to success
In contrast to the objectives of Adams puts the system. This is what you do every day in order to succeed.
Creating Dilbert was not my goal. It was just one of many things that I have tried in my life. All these things have something, which is why they did not work, though, if it worked, would have been a huge success. If you do not know my story, I'll tell you - I'm a guy who just got lucky. This guy tried to create at least one worthwhile thing. But it was not the way, full of happiness. It is hard work. I have tried many things, and I did not know that this will bring me success, not yet tried it and did not see the market reaction.
By Scott Adams said that if the "Dilbert", the other undertakings, had failed, he would not have accepted this "temporary failure" as a personal failure. After all, in business success - an important factor. Systematically to increase their chances of luck - the only way to succeed.
