steel balls
This problem is well-suited for "calving" people crazy technical warehouse, consider themselves cool by engineers and specialists around the mechanized. The task sounds simple limit:
What is the weight a thousand steel balls with a diameter of one millimeter?
The usual answer to this question vary between one to two tons. In fact, thousands of millimeter steel spheres... weigh 3.7 grams.
To find the answer logically, without the use of mathematics, it is sufficient to know the following:
- The density of steel - 7.7 grams per cubic centimeter.
- Thousands of steel balls is easy to put in a cubic sanimetr.
So, thousands of balls can not weigh more than eight grams, and, in fact, it weighs much less (if we consider the spaces between the balls). Neither Okaka tonnes or kilograms of the question, of course, can not.
50 folds
The next task sounds even easier to first:
"Imagine that you take a piece of paper and fold it in half, then half again, and then again and again - only 50 times. What will be the thickness of a sheet of paper, folded in this manner?
In this problem, a whole two trick:
- Firstly, it is impossible to fold a piece of paper 50 times - the most that man is capable of, it's 11 bends, and not bending over (in fact, it all depends on the size of the paper - here's an article in the Wiki).
- Well and secondly, if you just imagine the thickness can have a piece of paper, folded in half 50 times, you get a truly astronomical figure - more than 83 million kilometers. This is more than half the distance from the earth to the sun.
