How to six months without a TV can change a life

Several years ago, I had a period when free time the budget was very limited. Therefore, after serious reflection, it was decided to refuse some forms of entertainment, including feature films, both artistic and documentary.
Suddenly, this period was delayed for six months, and even short videos was a rarity in those days. But today I did not feel sorry about: in my life there have been several positive and, in principle, the expected changes. But one change was totally unexpected for me.

As expected, my mental abilities are better. I find it easier to start giving literature, thought provoking read, reading analysis and further work with him. I did some measurements, but the changes were so noticeable that not to notice them was impossible.
Significantly improved and my ability to creatively meet the challenges. I did not gush forth creative ideas easily, but this process has become less time-consuming and less energy.

The next discovery occurred when the period of temporary lean budget for private and entertainment took place. I decided to see a historical film quality. It was a work without special effects, not the "war games" and without any passions, but such a strong intellectual and emotional effect on the viewer, I did not expect.
About two weeks the film could not get out of my head. I remember almost every scene and event, they are scrolled over and over again in my head and awakened the same emotions and feelings.
Why it was not clear for me? Today it is already known, the brain - a constantly evolving body. It changes physiologically and anatomically as a result of our activities. That is, the more I solve math problems, the better becomes my ability to such thinking.
It would seem that the more I watch movies, the better must become my ability to perceive them and to feel. But my experience says the opposite: the smaller, the better. And I began to look for an explanation.

One of the most thorough work was a book on the topic "Frozen look. Physiological effects of television on children's development"Which was written by the German scientist Rainer Patslaf (Rainer Patzlaff). The book contains a number of different research scientists from different countries.
The focus is on the alpha state, which includes the person looking video productions (films, broadcasts, shows).
Alpha state - the generic name for similar processes in the brain, are generated when the electromagnetic waves of the same length - alpha waves.
This condition is typical for people who are half asleep, in a trance, mesmerized and watching TV. The first three states are characterized by partial or complete absence of consciousness. Why not assume the same thing about watching TV.
Television and Metabolism
In 1992, American researchers concerned about the epidemic of obesity among children, examined 31 girls with normal and overweight. During the experiment, the girls were asked to sit back and relax. After some time, turns on the TV (showing the popular film The Wonder Years).
The aim of the experiment was to find out how the rate of metabolism at rest. Therefore, the measurement was made of so-called basic metabolism in a state of complete inactivity during the 25-minute TV show and after it.
No one could have imagined how dramatically the rate of metabolism will drop immediately after turning on the TV - an average of 14%.
Although the logic of the anticipated growth, because on the screen, new visual images, sound, information, and therefore, the brain has to work harder than complete rest.
Since after the turn on the TV I only work the brain, scientists have concluded that while watching it is loaded even less than in idleness. But what is no longer working in the head when lit blue screen?

American scientist and neurophysiologist Patrick Kelly (Patrick Kelly) was looking for methods of non-pharmacological treatment of diseases of the brain. The research plan included computed tomography of the brain during different sessions.
It turned out that a lot of parts of the brain are involved in fast account aloud from 1 to 120, fast solving simple math problems, memorization of unrelated words. But while watching TV were involved only the parietal and temporal lobes of the cerebral hemispheres that are responsible for the perception of visual images and sound.

How to live
After you review this information, I came to the conclusion that during the period of forced abstinence my brain functions responsible for perception, creativity, imagination, and the like, were typed forces, as they were involved in projects requiring all. On top of that they are not weakened by inactivity. Therefore, the unremarkable in terms of effects and passions film has had such a powerful impact.
What should I do with this information? There are three options.
First - do nothing. This is the most common reaction. It's not always a bad thing is not always good, sometimes - neither bad nor good. Close and forget - also a method of treatment of information.
Second - you can use the information in order to obtain maximum enjoyment from movies, restricting their view to the maximum, by choosing only worthy work. I think we can all agree: the last time in the industry a lot of garbage that we sometimes look simply because they are accustomed to playing, not because it's worth it. If you choose this option, we will, on the one hand, to rid yourself of unnecessary waste and loss of time, on the other - to strengthen the fun and excitement of standing films.
But I went on. I do not really like the fact that the video production has an impact on me, my views and beliefs, bypassing my mind and control center. So I decided to almost completely abandon the movies. Sometimes there are documentaries, but I forgot when was the last time this was.
Often there are webinars and educational films. Of course, at first it was difficult and unusual, but the brain was reconstructed with time, and no regrets. I feel great and I found a lot of new ways to have a good time.
