Hartmut Esslinger (Hartmut Esslinger), founder of Frog Design, the very first Apple designer some time ago wrote a new book about the design and the process of creating early prototypes in the company of Cupertino.
Esslinger worked at Apple from 1984 to 1990, ie before the release of the original Macintosh. In his book he demonstrates the curious photos of models of different devices on which Apple engineers have worked, but who, for whatever reasons, was not destined to see the light. Esslinger was assigned to develop the look of the computer "three in one", the design of which later became the prototype of the first Macintosh line.
The book is called «Design Forward» and, among other things, contains excerpts from the comments of Steve Jobs. According to him, he wanted to create a device with the classic "American" style, like Studebaker cars or Coca-Cola bottles. At that time, the standard of industrial design were products of Sony, so Steve suggested the team follow the philosophy: "If Sony would make the computers."
The book demonstrates many interesting concepts and images of other Apple prototypes from distant 80th years of the last century. For example, a hybrid phone and tablet under the name «Macphone».
