1. Mac OS X 10.0 Cheetah
Of course, today macOS - a great operating system, but not so on its first release in 2001. Apple thought that it is better to release the system quickly instead of good faith to complete the work on it, and the result was not long in coming.
Mac OS X 10.0 was incredibly slow: even banal resizing windows could drive you crazy. It was called the "Cheetah" - who thought of this before? If it was a cheetah, only pumped sleeping pills. And of course, it was not the things which now seem to us the norm, and it is not just about memory protection. It was not even possible to burn a CD or watch a DVD, and for 2001 it was, to put it mildly, sad.
2. iSight
cameras are incredibly small now, and they can build virtually any device, but it was not always. In 2003, Apple made a desperate attempt to combine a microphone and webcam, and it would have been nice if not the price of 149 dollars. Of course, the camera is great, but the buyers decided that worse than a camera, but is three times cheaper solution is much better. Apple iSight withdrew from the production after 3 years.
3. Apple TV
In 2007, the set-top box was probably the most stupid investment of US $ 299 from all possible. See with its help was virtually nothing. Videos downloaded from the iTunes, or videos from YouTube - in short, the same thing that you see on your computer. The prefix was not able to anything other than what the computer does. While people like the TV from Apple, the company offered them a box to which you want to connect the TV.
4. Flower Power and Blue Dalmatian iMac
Delighted success of multi-colored models iMac G3, in February 2001, Apple has decided to refine the model with plastic panels with designs, "Blue Dalmatian" and "Flower Power". It looked terrible. Although the presentation was held and with the inherent Apple panache in July iMac returned to calmer colorings.
5. The first Power Mac G4
By the design of this giant, released in September 1999, no complaints. The problem was that a month later Apple lowered the processor speed to 450 MHz and declared 400 MHz as well as the supplier (Motorola) could not provide the promised quality of processors in the right quantities. At the same time reduce the price no one bothered. Buyers were, to put it mildly, upset. At Apple, too, we were upset, so since 2005, all of the processors began to order from Intel.
6. iPod shuffle 3
Apple decided that the buttons are at their small and inexpensive player iPod shuffle too much. Why not take them at all? Buttons of the player moved on... branded headphones. So you could not use any more. Great idea! Admitting his mistake, Apple has released the fourth generation iPod shuffle, returning the long-suffering button.
7. Apple Display Connector
In 2000, Apple began to use the connector, conductive video signal and power supply that supports USB, - all in one, and his name was ADC. The idea is good, but it means that you can use with the Apple computer Apple display only (this is in the spirit of kupertinovtsy, is not it?), But buyers are not enthusiastic about such conditions.
But it is much more of a problem was the fact that these connectors are not fit to 17-inch CRT-monitors and 30-inch LCD, which sold the Apple. In the end, it turned out so that you buy the required monitor - and it does not work, will have to purchase an adapter for $ 200. In 2004, Apple took pity on the ruined buyers and changed ADC to DVI.
8. Power Mac G4 Cube
Introduced in July 2000, the Power Mac G4 - computer, "packaged" in the 8-inch cube. In it was all G4 power, which is needed for advanced users, but outputs that they, too, were needed in the computer were not available. And of course, for a nice compact design had seriously overpaid. Therefore miracle cube few people liked.
Those who bought it, ran into some problems. Because of its design, computer periodically he sent himself to sleep. But some buyers do not realize that there is no fan, managed to block the ventilation, thereby destroying their machines. Apple got a good lesson and created the Mac mini, but a cube, the charming on the outside and full of secrets inside, still legends.
9. Hockey Puck Mouse
The first Apple mouse, connected via USB, can confound any whose hands were more hands of a small child. This was the case when Apple gone too far with minimalism, because a button and pleasant colors is not too much to be effective.
10. The Lisa
The Lisa was the first computer with a graphical user interface, and it was named after the daughter of Steve Jobs. When he was released in 1983, its price was 10 000 dollars (by today's standards is about 21 000 dollars). Of course, the target audience were businessmen, but even the most successful of them were shocked by such amount and in no hurry to part with their money, especially when arrived much cheaper Macintosh. "Lisa" was so hopeless that it even reprogrammed on Mac OS and renamed the Macintosh XL, and then completely removed from production.
As with any company, Apple was not the best of times, and not the best of ideas, but as you can see, they all served as a good lesson. Maybe you have something to add the list? What Apple products have disappointed you personally and why? Share your stories in the comments.
