How to live on Ubuntu, if you have an iPhone or Android

No, I am not an ardent opponent of Windows, on the contrary - I think that Microsoft has asked the bar for affordability and ease of entry into the world of user IT, for that they thank you very much, but to be honest, for me as a geek with experience, this operating system has lost all interest. One evening, I experienced another disappointment after an unsuccessful search method to implement dual-clipboard function (for it later), this function is by default in any Linux distribution with a graphical user interface, but is absent in all versions Windows. We had to change something. After an hour on the laptop was installed Ubuntu 12.04.2, and I looked at a slight bewilderment GUI Unity. Citing the work environment in the form acceptable for themselves, I began to configure a standalone bundle Ubuntu - Android. I love the autonomy, always a pleasure to have on hand-to-date database of passwords, contacts, notes, etc. Well, that a variety of cloud technology facilitates this can be very useful.
I described an example of using a bunch of Android - Ubuntu, but because the article pretty often used and cross-platform cloud-based technologies, it will be equally useful both for Android, and ios users. Windows enthusiasts will also find here a couple of tips :)
file synchronization
First of all it was necessary to adjust the synchronization of files between Ubuntu and Android. To this end, I decided to use Dropbox. My choice is due to the fact that the service has a two-tier authentication via SMS and the maximum cross-platform. The list of supported operating systems and platforms, at least not indifferent: Linux, Android, Mac, ios, Windows, Blackberry, and even the Kindle fire. Who knows what tomorrow will not suit me Ubuntu;) between devices Sync files I need above all to storing the password database, as well as for small file transfer between devices: pictures, e-books and etc.
Notes
To synchronize your notes in Windows bundle - Android I use Evernote. In Ubuntu, I use the Windows-version of Evernote, this helps me Wine. On Linux forums, users complain that Evernote is slow under Wine. Yes scrolling occurs with appreciable delay, but it is treated switching method for displaying articles. To Evernote has worked smoothly, I just put the method of displaying notes in a list. By the way, the information repeatedly seen that if Evernote is stored a lot of notes, he begins to lose its former speed. If you encounter this problem, try switching to the list. Yes, this is not usual, but the performance in the face. Here it is Evernote, running in Ubuntu.
passwords
One day, I came to understand a truth about IT is that users are divided into those who maintains a database account passwords, and those who still do not. To account passwords on Windows, I use the application Keepass, which copes with its task. In Ubuntu, for this purpose I use Keepassx app on your smartphone - KepassDroid. The order in passwords eliminates the large amount of headaches. Now I'm without a smile can not look at friends and relatives who, with varying degrees of regularity forget their passwords (usually this is found at the wrong time, more comical :) As for me, the current password database is always under my hand and thanks a bunch Keepass Dropbox. Well, in the completion of passwords topic - link Keepass on a different platform.
Photo
After the service to store photos flickr demonstrated unprecedented generosity and distributed to all users of terabytes of storage, I realized that I wanted to use it. Here's how I organized storage and synchronization of pictures when you connect your smartphone to your wi-fi network, all new photos automatically synchronized between devices through Dropbox. After the synchronization finishes, I pour them on flickr using convenient Flickr Uploader application.
Contacts, calendar, bookmarks
Times when I sync calendars with palm through the cradle, for me, I have long gone. With convenient cloud services Google I solve the issue with the calendar and contacts through Google Calendar and Google Contacts, respectively. To synchronize bookmarks between devices I use Google Chrome on both devices.
Well, now everything is synchronized and available to me anywhere where there is internet or my smartphone. Now you can relax and tell you more about double the clipboard. Any Linux distribution with a graphical user interface has two clipboard:
- one in which the last selected text falls. Simply highlight the text, and it is already on the clipboard (paste of it goes by pressing the middle mouse button).
- It is identical to the clipboard in Windows (Ctrl-C / Ctrl-V).
RBS - it's incredibly handy thing. For example, in one clipboard can be copied to login to a different password, and then insert without having to switch between windows :)
I stopped for a version LTS 12.04.2, as more stable. It will be officially supported by Canonical to 2017. Overall, I am very pleased with what I got, because Ubuntu gives me the flexibility and performance, and cloud technology enables you to synchronize all the data on both me devices.
