Xmarks. Better synchronization of bookmarks between browsers
Makradar Browsers / / December 19, 2019
Today I would like to tell you about a plug-in (expansion, Wrath, call it what you will), without which it simply can not imagine the productive work in the global Internet. This plugin is Xmarks, formerly familiar to fans of Firefox as the Foxmarks.
The majority of users (including me) are not limited to working with one computer. Therefore, access to bookmark your favorite web browser, which laboriously collected over a very long time, is almost a vital prerequisite. Some browsers, for example, Google Chrome and Opera, provide their complete solutions. But I needed some versatile option that would suit multiple applications and different operating systems (Mac OS X and Windows).
Fortunately, I read somewhere about Xmarks, support for today as much as 4 browser: Safari for Mac, Firefox (most "advanced" version of the plugin), Google Chrome and Internet Explorer. For each of them it is presented as a separate supplement or plug, and may be installed separately.
Among the features that are available for several platforms at once can be identified as follows:
- Naturally, the synchronization of bookmarks;
- support audits synchronization process with the ability to "roll back" changes;
- access to your bookmarks and other data through the browser, including the iPhone and using;
- sync open tabs between computers (does not work in Safari);
- possibility of manual and automatic synchronization;
- data encryption.
At the moment, much has been realized, but also a lot to do. For example, some of the things that set addon for Firefox among all similar competitors - password synchronization, intelligent search and use their own server for greater safety data.
If the plug-in settings in Firefox and Chrome are in the relevant sections of the browser, the plug-in for Safari is set System Preferences. Another neat icon also appears in the menu bar, by which you can quickly synchronize data with the server, go to the web interface to manage bookmarks or open Plugin settings.
In general, for Xmarks developers need to put a monument in his lifetime! :)
