Built-in browser in macOS has a lot of convenient features, but not all of them known by users. Layfhaker shares the secrets of productive work in Safari on the Mac.
1. Use keyboard shortcuts
Most Safari shortcuts are not different from the keyboard shortcuts in other browsers, but if you never use them, then now is the time to start. Learn and remember the most useful:
- Option + arrow or "Space" - screenful at a time scrolling pages;
- Shift + Command + \ - display of all open tabs;
- Shift + Command + click LMB - Open a link in a new tab and switch to it;
- Control + Tab or Control + Shift + Tab - switching between open tabs;
- Command + 1 - Command + 9 - quick switch to tab from the first to the ninth;
- Shift + Command + T - the opening of last closed tab or window;
- Shift + Command + R - Switch to read mode.

2. Watch the video in the "picture in picture"
One of the most exciting features introduced in MacOS Sierra, makes life easier for those who love while working to include video in the background. With the "Picture in Picture" video from YouTube can be convenient to turn to a small window and not occupy valuable screen space.

6. Customize Toolbar

7. Add useful extensions

- Adblock;
- 1Password;
- Pocket;
- Instapaper;
- OneNote;
- Todoist.
Installed extensions in a single click and immediately appear on the toolbar. In addition to installing extensions from the store, you can also install them manuallyBy downloading from the developer's site and clicking on "Install".
8. Enable debug menu
Hidden debug menu of the Debug, which is typically used only by developers, and provides some useful things for the casual user. To enable the menu, copy the "Terminal" command defaults write com.apple. Safari IncludeInternalDebugMenu 1
and restart Safari.
- Media Flags → Video / Audio Needs User Action - these options are turned off obsessive auto play media files on the page. To start an audio or video have to click on it.
- Reset Top Sites / Recompute Top Sites - if you are using a list of frequently visited sites, these options will allow to reset history when Safari inaccurately determine the top websites.
9. Customize your browser by itself
Not all of the standard Safari settings are perfect, so if you do something does not fit, simply reconfigure the browser for yourself. Here are the most annoying moments and ways to fix them.
- Change the default search engine. Familiar to most of us do not use Google search in Safari by default, but it is easy to change the tab "Search" in the settings. Do not forget to put in the same place all the checkboxes smart search for more convenient operation.
