MyShake - application of scientists from Berkeley, which turns a smartphone into a seismograph

Earthquakes occur regularly in different parts of the Earth, taking with them hundreds of thousands of lives. Unfortunately, scientists can not keep track of all the hesitation, but now they can be helped. In order to pre-warn the world, enough to establish Android-application, developed by scientists from the University of California at Berkeley.
One of the global problems of humanity have been and will earthquake. Unfortunately, the recent disasters of this kind is much more frequent. Sometimes they occur where the earlier seismic activity was not registered, and this is a problem in two ways. In such areas, there is no seismic stations capable of in advance to warn people about the disaster.
Scientists Seismological Laboratory, University of California at Berkeley offered affordable and elegant solution to this problem by developing a unique application for Android-display tremors called MyShake. When using their design can fix the seismic activity before it becomes too late to do anything.
For the application, you need to put your smartphone on a flat surface. MyShake uses the accelerometer, tracking fluctuations. Thus it is able to cut minor changes position quite accurately recognizing the movement of the subject on which the device is located.
Thanks to modern data on earthquakes and high-sensitivity accelerometers installed in the modern gadgets, scientists were able to achieve impressive precision work. According to them, MyShake works in hypersensitive mode, recording is seismic shocks, rather than steps to the room.
Of course, the smartphone can not replace the professional equipment, but in his absence will be quite sufficient for registration of a possible activity of the earth's crust. It is important that the application is not only reads and analyzes incoming sensor data and outputs the information to user on the display, but also sends them to the seismological laboratory at the University of California, Berkeley, providing GPS data. There's information will be analyzed for further action.
The new application will allow to celebrate the tremors in all parts of the world without any equipment. Perhaps it will save someone's life today. But, even if nothing happens, the installation and use of the application will not pass in vain. With the help of MyShake planned not only to warn of the danger of the current situation, but also to the global research activity of the earth's surface, which will greatly expand our knowledge of the geology processes.
