Motivation / / December 19, 2019
Two brothers
- Hello, Jack! Welcome to Layfhaker!
- Hi, Nastya!
- Tell me about your family. Where you're from?
- I was born and live in Dolgoprudny Moscow region. My brother and my mother was raised. Father was not early, I was only two years old, his brother - eight.
Mom tried to give us the Max (brother. - Approx. author) everything to the maximum: kayaking and biking clubs, sections, and so on. Our Mom - creative nature, because education focus was art. I studied painting, graduated from music school.
- A sport?
- And the sport was. He engaged in basketball, weightlifting. Childhood was saturated.
- And my brother do you friends or rivals?
- My brother - my main support in life. Without his active support of many would have turned out differently, and not the fact that a positive. And as a child, and they quarreled and reconciled - anything can happen.
- What you wanted to become a profession, when you grow up?
- My youth fell on the period of rapid development of IT-technologies. I'm fond of all of this, I gave a lot of time studying the "computer science". After school, I decided to go to Moscow Technical University of Communications and Informatics. But I flunked the exam on the Russian language. I had to choose another university - Forest Institute, where training and was fatal for me.
- Why?
- I was injured. I was 20 years old. Typically, students passing the summer session, go on vacation. But in our university has provided practice. In that year, when I was injured, the official practice has ended. But I still remained a group of guys on base, helping teachers. In one of the hottest days I went to bathe in the pond. Unsuccessfully dived - broke his neck.
- What happened then?
- Due to my mother's incredible efforts we have quickly taken to Moscow, where he underwent surgery. But because of the heavy post-operative condition I spent in the intensive care department for more than three months while receiving mechanical ventilation. When the condition has stabilized and it was necessary to begin to rehabilitate himself, none of the doctors did not want to pitch for me. Again came to the rescue of the brother. He found a rehabilitation specialist, who just a few months has turned me from a stationary patient in person - sitting, moving, and most importantly, to understand how to recover further.
Hendbayk - perfect movement!
- How did you start your hobby hendbaykami?
- The Internet got information about people traveling on hendbaykah: about Alexander Semenov and Andrew Acorn, who himself developed them. I read all this with great interest, but did not think that I could use them. Until one day Max in one of the trips abroad I have not seen on the streets of the city with wheelchair velopristavkoy. This is a device that catches the front carriage and lifts the front wheels get stuck forever. This makes it more manoeuvrable. But I had doubts that I could pedal arms.
In 2010, with my mother and brother were in one of the medical centers of the Netherlands. There I first rode on a rehabilitation hendbayke. It was a completely new sensation for me - speed, mobility. I really liked it! There was confidence that I could learn this way of movement.
Distressed price alone. The minimum cost of a simple velopristavki - one and a half thousand euros. More advanced models - about 3 thousand euro, sports - 8-10 thousand euros. Therefore, my brother and I began to keep track of the secondary market. In 2011 I had my first console.
- Let's see, it was clear to readers: hendbayk and velopristavka - are one and the same?
- No, it's a little different. The word "hendbayk" comes from the English word hand - "hand" and on bike - "bicycle", ie hand-bike. they are different in design. Sporting used paravelosporte. There are three wheels, one reclining, pedals and controls arms. Such hand shops you could see in interview with Svetlana Moshkovich. There is also a rehabilitation hand shops, which involved the hands and feet, hiking - for movement on dirt roads, and there velopristavki. This removable veloprivod for strollers, which increases throughput and allows you to move around the city faster. For simplicity, in the project we still call it hendbaykami.
- By the way, about the project. Tell me how you came to mind to organize a «Handbikes - ideal movement"?
- You can say that the project was born at a time when I had my first console. That was in 2011. I rolled summer and autumn and winter began to think what to do next year. After one ride great, but what if you find like-minded people?
As I said above, about hendbaykah information in RuNet was, but small and very fragmented. So the first thing I did - this site handbikes.ru, Where he was to accumulate information about the sport and the way of transportation. also created groups in social networks, Which gradually began to gather people: someone has already been Hendi someone just getting started with them. We began to talk of activists formed a community.
A year later, we organized the first offline meeting. It was attended by Andrey Shiryaev - professional hendbayker, a member of the reserve of the Russian team. He, like us, is very interested in promoting hendbayk movement in our country.
And so we began our pokatuhi. :)
- "Sunk" eventually to the Netherlands? :)
- It was one of our first activities. My brother has been organizing bike tours, so we thought, and not to give up if we, hendbaykeram, along with cyclists for a week in Holland? No sooner said than done!
On this trip, Gregory Glanc made a documentary.
- Well Netherlands, where cycling all the conditions and the climate is milder. But in Russia, no bicycle paths, either good asphalt and snow lies for months. What we hendbayki?
- On cross hendbayk better carriages - you can even borders "jump." I do believe that hendbayk should be included in the federal list of technical means of rehabilitation, because that it not only makes people more mobile with disabilities, but also allows you to train the shoulder girdle, to strengthen health.
As for the weather, then hendbaykov and there is an advantage. Most wheelchair users sit at home not only in winter, but in the warm season, as the move around the city in a wheelchair is quite difficult. Hand solves the problem. Believe me, with the freedom of movement, which gives hendbayk simply not usidish home. And if people skated, will hold the open air at least a season - that's good, I think.
- As far as Moscow and the Moscow region are friendly to people in wheelchairs or hendbaykah in terms of barrier-free environment?
- Cities are becoming more affordable. And thanks largely to themselves in wheelchairs. a growing number of activists who are lobbying the issue of adapted infrastructure in government institutions every year.
Hendbaykery in this regard, try to be friends with cyclists. And we need them, and bikeways. They solve the problem of the availability of urban infrastructure. If there is a bike path, you can quickly (the average speed on hendbayke - 15-20 km / h) to get to the park or the store, but without disturbing other road users.
- And how people react to you? For many hendbayk still a novelty?
- We organize workshops and pokatushki in city parks. People notice our unusual vehicles, and the response is usually, 'Wow! Give me a ride! ".
In other words, the person in hende not considered as invalid. There are no stupid questions, and compassionate views. On the contrary, people wonder what it is you're doing. :)
- Last question hendbaykah. Your project is sponsored by someone?
- Nearly all the pay for you: events, exhibitions, workshops, trips, travel. Also, the enthusiasm increasing amount of equipment for the project. Although some members of the movement to the acquisition hendbayka helped patrons. Sponsor for the development of the project began to seek recently. In addition, in 2014 a little help out winning in contests and participate in competitions with cash prizes. This year, part of the transportation costs assumed the municipal authorities.
All over to see the positive
- Jack, what do you do besides hendbaykinga?
- I work. There is something you want. :) My youthful enthusiasm for computers has resulted in the work which I have now feeds. I am a coder and programmer. I make and administer the sites.
- How is your typical day?
- In the season 50% of the time I work, the remaining 50% - will organize a variety of activities. It is also engaged in social work: I want to Dolgoprudny was accessible to people with disabilities.
Also recently became interested in wheelchair rugby. Once a week I go to workout. I think that the sport - it's a push to success. Indeed, thanks to him, many radically change themselves and their lives.
- Our project is called "No excuses." What is not to look for any excuses for Eugene Krasnoperova?
- I have no habit of making excuses. I'm always looking for the positive in everything. For example, if I had not got injured, maybe I would not have learned what hendbayk and how cool it is. :)
- What do you dream about?
- On the very simple things: to live somewhere in a quiet place, a family, raise children, to be happy. :)
- Our interview comes to an end. Wish something readers Layfhakera?
- Be independent and learn to think positively. Many see the negative in everything, and this puts pressure on the very person, preventing him to engage in self-development and achieve their goals.
- Thank you for this interview, Jack!
- thank you for the invitation!
