Anki Drive: Revolution at the intersection of computer games and reality

During the WWDC 2013 audience was surprised by an interesting development from Anki company engaged in intelligent systems and robotics. Before the eyes of the people there was a hybrid of computer and real games: several small autonomous machines went on the track and manage it all from mobile devices on iOS.
During the presentation on the track was 4 cars, each with an independent power source. The connection between the phone and the machine happened via Bluetooth. Although many thought that the idea of totally new, but in fact for such a simple-looking implementation lie far more complex and promising technology, because in fact the machine went on their own, and this applied technology developed by Anki Anki Drive.
Boris Sofman, CEO Anki, quite clearly explained hardvarnogo component system, almost without going Details in intelligent software installed on iOS device and control the behavior of machines. On each machine installed sensors and a processor configured to decide on changing a parameter depending on the received data with the speed sensors, direction and position of the machine relative to the surrounding geometry and, most importantly, with respect to other machines, with calculated all this thousands of times per second in real time time.
As an example, the situation was demonstrated when one of the four machines accelerated, drove faster the other, while avoiding collisions with both the slower members of the movement, and with objects on track. Then, three machines were slow reprogrammed on the fly, then synchronously caught and blocked cab.
At the end of the show the reckless driver has been programmed as if he has a gun and he can shoot at the three cars, knocking them off the track. While all this was modeled only software, and no shots were not physical, but the other three cars react as if they really were.
Now in the App Store free application is now available anki DriveAnd cars should be available in the fall, with an estimated price of $ 200 per set.
