Most old-school RPG-games for our Mac

RPG-games have always been a part of computer games and stood at their source. It all started with a text adventure like Colossal Cave, and then was brought to us Rogue graphics and Wizardry to expand the boundaries of time, young Apple II. Modern Mac- and PC-gamers have the opportunity to play online RPG, such as World of Warcraft and Dungeons & Dragons Online. Not to mention the clean-up in the dungeons of the pillars of the genre like Diablo.

Role playing games have been with us always, they have changed greatly, but there are classical canons, which still remain relevant. For I have always stood alone RPG with isometric graphics and a view from above. The most striking of these was probably the series Baldur's Gate, returning to us in the form of updated a few years ago. But this is not the only example of such games. I picked all my favorite-RPG, that is now available for download and play on their new Macs, and I want to tell you about them.

Avadon 2: The Corruption

For twenty years, Spiderweb Software released RPG-games. They drew inspiration from the classic Wizardry and other games of the era, painstakingly working on them to give us hours, weeks and even months spanning gameplay. Epic adventure, a lot of side quests, plus everything after the passage of the story, you could always start a game character in a different class.

In Avadon 2 you are acting as custodian of Avadon, a soldier and a spy in one person. Your task is to save the country from destruction. You can play in five different character classes, with their own unique abilities. During the game always have to make a choice that will have an impact on its outcome.

As the name implies Avadon 2 is a sequel, but to a head dive into the gameplay, it is not necessary to play the first part of Avadon. Before buying you can try the free demo version (gorgeous by the way).

Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition

The prefix «Enhanced Edition» Games title is no accident, it tells us that the good old Baldur's Gate has been completely redesigned, improved and is working on the latest Macs, and PC (there's even a version for iPad). The game follows the rules of Dungeons & Dragons, even action takes place in the Forgotten Realms - the world created for D & D. It simply is imbued with the spirit of Dungeons & Dragons, and it is as much fun to play.

In addition to improved graphics sotavlyaet Enhanced Edition has brought improved gameplay, new characters, new dungeons, and many new game items, which can be found by examining them. Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition combines the original Shadows of Amn and released later addition Throne of Bhaal. Also, in this version, a new test of The Black Pits 2, which offers the strongest enemies, and valuable trophies. To descend to the dungeons you can bring all four new characters.

Eschalon Book II

Basilisk Games Studio has created the classic RPG for the Mac, Windows and Linux. Eschalon Book II is one of them. It is crammed with a huge amount of game items and contains 24 unique skill that can be mastered, plus eight base attributes that affect your character. All fights and actions take place step by step, and the storyline is so elaborated that the gameplay can last for days or even weeks.

Eschalon Book II came out in 2011 and is one of the latest releases in the series of games, which starts in 2007. Nevertheless, it contains all the elements of classic RPG and will give you hours of good geypmleya.

Before you buy the full version of Eschalon Book II, you can first assess it for free by downloading a demo. By the way, is now preparing to enter Eschalon Book III, which will be available in mid-February.

Shadowrun Returns

Harebrained Schemes gave us the well-known Shadowrun Returns, one of the most beloved and well-known computer RPG. It opens us to the world of cyber-punk, being a unique combination of fantasy of magic and high technology.

Shadowrun Returns is a tactical step-RPG for one player. In the story you shadowrunner - a mercenary of the future, which is ruled by corporations, but the power which is out of control due to excessive abuse of technology and the revival of ancient magic.

Ultima VII: The Complete Edition

If you need a real old school RPG, it will eventually have to return to where it all began. Ultima forever changed the gameplay in the computer role-playing games, but even now you can play the classic game of the Ultima series on modern Macs and PC. GOG.com sells versions for both platforms.

Ultima VII: The Complete Edition is one of my favorite series. In the story the main character, whose name is Avatar returns to his native Brittany, to deal with the product of evil The Guardian and a religious sect Brotherhood. At stake is the future of the country and the stakes are very high.

Of course the concept is quite old school relative and each is his own. For younger gamers may be old school Gothic or The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. In the entire history of the Golden Age RPG it came out a lot of good games, and many of them have become classics of the genre which are equal so far.
